Job Well Done
Posted: October 30, 2015

If this is what working for the circus is like, I’m glad they turned me down. Robin thought as he slumped against the side of a stall, but he didn’t really mean it. Cleaning up the circus grounds wasn’t easy, and even though everyone else had said they’d be helping, the imp realized they were pretty much letting him take care of it himself. It wasn’t like he could blame them, it was all kind of his fault. He just wished he could use magic to help clean up. But again, he couldn’t blame them for not wanting him to use that either.

“About done?” Robin froze up, quickly looking for something else to clean before he could be reprimanded. “Jasper wants to speak with you.”

But it was just Archie, and Robin relaxed. The Aetra was the only one who didn’t seem to be angry with him about everything that happened, and maybe that’s why he was here summoning him instead of anyone else. Robin gulped. He wasn’t afraid of Jasper, at least not after facing the Chamber of Evil, but he wasn’t looking forward to facing him again, not after his attitude toward him had been made clear when they walked back from the Chamber with Skreetch and the sideshow creatures.

“You sure I need to see him now? I’m sure I can find something else to do, and besides, Jasper is probably busy with Lanturnacht, isn’t he?” Robin asked hopefully.

“You wanted to set things right, didn’t you? Don’t worry, he’s not really that angry. Well, frustrated maybe, but not angry.”

That… wasn’t the most reassuring thing he could hear, but he supposed he really couldn’t put this off any longer. Robin sighed and followed Archie to Jasper’s tent.

The imp slunk into the tent behind Archie, hoping that seeing his brother first would prevent Jasper’s mood from dropping too much. But when he finally made eye contact, Jasper, like Archie had said, didn’t seem that mad. Of course, he could be silently fuming, but Robin felt his anxiety dissipating.

“Who are you, exactly?” Jasper cut Robin off before he could apologize.

“Robin.” Prince Robin, he added silently, but he wasn’t about to say that out loud. He wasn’t sure how they’d react to finding out exactly who he was - or worse, who his father was.

“Robin? Aren’t you rather well known as a prankster?”

Was he? Well, that would make sense, it wasn’t like this was the first time he had pranked people, just the first time it had gone so horribly wrong. Pride bubbled up in his chest, and his grin returned.

“I dunno, you tell me. I’m not much for gossip.” A thought crossed Robin’s mind. “So does this mean you were impressed? If you were, can I join the cir-”
“No.” Robin’s grin immediately fell from his face, and Jasper continued. “Maybe if you hadn’t almost completely ruined the circus this year, I would have said yes.” Jasper crossed the tent to stand in front of him, and then held out his hand, which Robin took cautiously.

“But your skills are impressive. Maybe you should try again next year.” They shook hands, and Robin’s eyes widened. This meant he had a chance, and determination flared up again. He was so caught up in immediately planning for next year that he almost missed what Jasper said next.

"Though I suppose you can help us celebrate the rest of Lanturnacht this year.” Robin froze, and then nodded wildly. He and Archie followed Jasper out of the tent to observe the circus patrons and finish off the Lanturnacht celebrations.

Candy Rescue?
Posted: October 28, 2015

By his standards, Robin - Prince Robin, son of the terrifying and powerful King Mephitic - had been doing entirely too much running away lately. The plan had just been to leave a candy trail for the sideshow creatures to follow to the exit and freedom, which, now that he thought about it wasn’t the most foolproof plan, but it was what he had.

Of course, that was before he had gotten separated from Ghost, his two-headed companion, who knew the Chamber like the back of his paw before he had gotten entangled in strong webs from spiders he hoped he would never see, before he had freed himself only to back right into the masked monster.

And now he was running, wildly tossing handfuls of candy as he went, assuming they were disappearing down the masked monster’s gaping maw. Skreetch had sworn up and down, left and right, from the afterlife and back again that the sideshow creatures were harmless, but the imp was running out of candy, and he didn’t want to test the creature’s limits -- not after it had already shunned him from the Chamber once before.

“Took you long enough.” Relief swept over Robin when he saw the now familiar obsideon waiting for him as he turned the next corner.

To his surprise, the other sideshow creatures surrounded Ghost peacefully, occasionally reaching out for candy spilled from the bags the obsideon had carried. The scene made Robin stop in his tracks; he then realized the creature that had been following him hadn’t attacked him yet. He glanced behind him to see it cock a mask to the side, a free hand reaching out towards the candy bags questioningly. Suddenly, Robin felt extremely foolish.

“How did you know where to wait?” The odd group had reached the entrance in less than a minute thanks to Ghost; Robin was surprised to see Jasper and Skreetch waiting for them. The sideshow creatures, finally content with all of the candy they had consumed, had immediately wandered over to Skreetch, with only the doll-like yehxil pausing to sniff at a slightly sticky but finally free Albrecht.

Both heads stared at him blankly. “For someone that spent so much time sneaking around, you can be extremely loud when you want to be,” the first head grumbled, leaving the second to explain, “We were always aware of your position. I think anything inside, and perhaps outside, could hear your yelling.” There was a collective snort from the group that had been waiting outside, and Robin grinned sheepishly.

“Either way,” both heads stated at once, “this is where we part.” Robin nodded, reaching out a hand in some semblance of a thankful gesture, but it was ignored.

“The next time you think of messing with our home - don’t.” Ghost disappeared back into the Chamber of Evil almost as abruptly as they had appeared.

“Well, I guess that’s that.” Robin said, clapping his hands together once triumphantly, his grin returning.

“Not quite,” Jasper growled. “Don’t think I came here only to ensure your success.” The imp suddenly remembered the state the circus grounds were in due to his pranks, and as he trudged after Jasper, Skreetch, and the sideshow creatures on the way back to their home, he knew his long night was going to be even longer. And yet, Robin’s determination to finish setting things right kept him from running off into the night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robin worked hard to get the sideshow monsters back, you can visit them again in the Circus!
Be sure to have some fun! And keep a sharp eye out for Mysterious Mistic random events! You could find some Circus foods!
If searching around in the dark for suspect foods doesn't thrill you, go see Keilley and get your fill of these delicious new lattes. One of them is seasonal, so stock up!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Venture into the maze again? It has been swept clean, and you may grab all the goodies once again! Not all is as it was however... There are some new corridors to traverse, and walls where there were none before!
And new goodies too!

Happy Hunting Mistica!

A Solution?
Posted: October 26, 2015

Robin might have stalled too long, or perhaps made a more suave entrance, but his determination to set things right (and intimidation from his Obsideon “companion”) sent him barreling through the circus grounds like a frodrinn out of Dire Morana, two sharp-toothed heads of Ghost nearly nipping at his ankles. Circus patrons and lanturats barely had time to dodge out of the way as the unusual duo made their way past them, heading straight for Jasper’s tent.

Upon reaching their destination, the imp peeked in, confirmed the circus leader was inside along with his brother, but doubt crept into his mind. Would Jasper be willing to forgive him, in order to help him set things right?

“Well?” One of the heads growled. It wasn’t a question but a demand. “It’s too late to falter.” The deeper voice stated, not harsh but level. Robin nodded, ran a hand through his hair, and entered the tent.

“Wha-” Jasper’s anger upon seeing the imp was cut off by suspicion and confusion, initiated by the Obsideon behind him. Robin seized this opening, thankful for the opportunity.

“I need your help…” Robin began. Jasper slammed a hand on his desk.
“So you make a mockery of my circus and nearly destroy Lanturnacht for all Misticans because you let your pranks get out of control, and the first thing you do is ask for my help?” Robin started to look down in shame before his determination flared up again, and he met Jasper’s eyes.

“Yes, I made a mistake, and I’m sorry. But now I’m going to set things right, and if you want it fixed, then you have to help me.” There was silence, Jasper’s expression rapidly as he tried to respond to the imp’s impudence - Jasper wasn’t used to being commanded. Before the Jinx could think of a response, Archie tapped him on the arm, and Jasper leaned down so the Aetra could whisper something to him. He narrowed his eyes, sighed, and stood back up.

“Very well then. What exactly did you have in mind?”

The imp grinned cheekily before gesturing to the piles of candy on either side of the tent. Both Archie and Jasper let out an exasperated sigh while Gregory chuckled.

Some negotiation and a few hours later, Robin and Ghost stood outside the Chamber of Evil, bags of candy grasped in hands and jaws. They strode past Albrecht, who was too torn between yelling to chase off lanturats or allowing them to continue chowing down on the gelatin since it seemed to be his only means of escape to yell at them to stop. Robin and Ghost exchanged glances before nodding, and disappearing inside the Chamber of Evil.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Looks like Robin has a plan, and all of your candy is being put to use!
Be sure to keep turning it in, lots of goodies await you!
Trick or Treating is getting turned up a notch!
Everyone may trick or treat every 45 mins
Champions, every 30 mins!
And that isn't all, we also have the amazing Phantom Shyre to reveal!
What other spooky things does this Lanturnacht have in store for Mistica?
Candy Collection!
Posted: October 23, 2015
Lanturnacht was still in full swing; trick or treating was providing everyone with something to do while the candy, sideshow attractions, and lanturats ran wild. No matter where Jasper had looked, the imp he sought was nowhere to be found. Although it meant all the little pranks had stopped, the damage done was more than enough to make his wonderful circus look more ragged than usual.
Despite that, he wanted answers from him. Who was he and why did he do it? Sure a little pranking was all in good fun – it was Lanturnacht after all and tricks were just as common as treats – yet it had gotten out of hand. Huffing to himself, the Jinx briskly walked through his circus. Misticans and pets alike were slowly coming back – not the normal crowd, but it was better than nothing.
Walking alongside him was his brother, who had been silently observing him worriedly. The grumbling Jasper had been making now and then was concerning, even more so when he stopped without any warning.
“Say, Archie, I have a brilliant idea.” Jasper exclaimed with huge grin. Archie tore his gaze away from Skreetch tangled up in a licorice spider’s web in exasperation. Judging from his last few ideas, most noticeably being the ‘taffy monster’ theory, he was sure it was going to be another ridiculous one.
“I’ve noticed many of our patrons hoarding up all the candy left and right. With our sideshow, and from what I hear, the Chamber as well, being a mess, why not have a friendly competition and see who can collect the most?” It was a perfect idea in the mind of Jasper. After all, it would liven things up while trick or treating continued, leaving plenty of chances to turn them in.
“A friendly competition? I pray it won’t be like last year.” Archie sighed, earning a cackle from Gregory, “Very well, as you mentioned, there is plenty of candy to collect. Let’s simply hope that after everything that has happened, they’ll be willing to part with their treats.”
 Click on either brother up above, or find the in the circus!
Once there, click on earn your points to turn in your candy and start gaining points this year!
Do you have enough for this new book?
Chaos!
Posted: October 21, 2015
Chaos continues to reign throughout both of the popular Lanturnacht attractions. As the living candy ran rampant regardless of the lanturats devouring them in the Circus, and now the sideshow creatures running amuck in the Chamber, it left their patrons at a loss on what to do. Trick or treating was the only thing that kept them busy during the long hours of dodging hungry candy. Few brave souls dared to continue exploring the Chamber. It was here where Robin watched those souls from the shadows of the trees.
Although Albrecht tried to greet his visitors with his normal gusto, his current entrapment and the fact that his Chamber had been taken over put a damper on things, even more so when the few visitors he had had run out screaming due to the new unwanted sideshow additions. As he in his half-eaten prison of gelatin, he could only watch as the guests ceased to come.
Was Lanturnacht going to be ruined at this rate?
Not if Robin had any say in it! Besides, it technically was his fault things had turned out this way. What had started as simple impish tricks only led to disaster, something that saddened him. With fierce determination, Robin made up his mind. He had to make things right. First on his list was to clear out the Chamber.
Marching up to the Chamber was easy enough, yet his world went white as a flurry of movement hit him, quite literally. Two pairs of eyes glowered down at him before the owner, er, owners of them leaped off him. A two-headed Obsideon had barreled through the half-open doors of the Chamber.
“You. You did this. You made them invade our home.” The first head sounded normal, baring its teeth and was immediately followed by a deeper tone.
“Yes, you smell of the magic.”
Robin found himself at a loss of words. He hadn’t run into this Obsideon before although he had a strange feeling that one room he stumbled into belonged to this one. Dusting himself off, all the while keeping his eyes on the Obsideon, a hesitant smile made itself known.
“I’m going to fix it; I just have to figure out how to get them back out here.” Although the Obsideon looked unconvinced, Robin turned back to the doors, throwing them open only to stare up into the strange mask creature. He was ashamed that he had almost leapt out of his skin in fright. Before any words could come out of his mouth, the masked creature slammed the door shut in his face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Do you think Robin is going to fix things?

Well, we have been hard at work on some fixes ourselves!
--Trades have been giving some issues this week, and we finally tracked it down and they should no longer be glitching items!

We also tackled a long standing issue in the Lanturnacht Maze, Chamber of Evil!
--When your pet loses hunger in the chamber, you will lose 10 points of hunger, not all 100!

Three cheers to Halichu!
Halichu has joined us as a programmer.
Let's show her a warm Mistic Welcome!

Developments and Trick or Treating!
Posted: October 19, 2015

As he peered underneath the curtains of the circus tent, Robin’s lips twisted upwards in a crooked smile. It had been one thing to use his magic to give inanimate objects life, so why not up the fun factor? With a wave of one finger, the curtain of the sideshow circus split apart, revealing an escape route for the inhabitants within. Now, how to persuade them to leave their maze? He could hear Skreetch getting ready to draw in more customers; he had to act fast!

His answer came to him in the form of a hoard of animated candy. He sidestepped and watched as they scampered into the maze. All was quiet, yet as the seconds passed, he realized that letting the candy do his work wasn’t a good idea.

Before Robin could resign himself into entering the maze on his own accord and draw them out, he found him on the receiving end of a stampede. Boldy  he leaped to safety, watching in amusement as the candy exited the maze with its attractions fighting to eat them.

Well, that was one way to get them out. Dusting himself off, Robin made his merry way to the next place on his list: the Chamber of Evil. He had investigated it briefly before getting sidetracked by the swamp and his new little friend, yet he thought it could be improved - Imp style, of course. Holding up a finger, green wisps floating around it, he was startled by a loud voice nearby.

“Hey, what are you trying to--”

Before Albrecht could get another word out, lime-flavored gelatin encased him from neck to toe. A delighted smile settled on his lips at the shock on the koko’s face.

“You know how the old saying goes -- trick or treat. I normally prefer tricks, myself.” Unable to hold himself back, he stepped past the trapped Chamber Owner, Robin threw open the doors to the Chamber.

“Yuck, I hate lime! Unhand... er, release me from this at once!” Albrecht demanded, the gelatin wobbling as he struggled. Before he could go about his plan to make the Chamber more interesting, he was cut off by something approaching them. A frown tugging at his lips at being interrupted, Robin turned to see what was going on.

A cloud of dust greeted his eyes; the circus attractions were still chasing the candy, except they were in turn being chased by something else - a hoard of hungry lanturats. Quickly escaping their path of mayhem, all the imp could do was watch them disappear into the Chamber, much to Albrecht’s dismay. Well… that certainly wasn’t what he had in mind...

Oh dear!
Looks like the sideshow is empty as the attractions are now loose in the Chamber of Evil!

Adventure Time!
Posted: October 16, 2015

In the early morning light, Robin approached the Chamber of Evil, curious as to the enormous structure in the Banshee Swamp.

He entered the maze without notice, quickly checking making his way through and collecting the oddities and trinkets scattered about. When he returned to the swamp, he ran into a lost little critter.

The Omen shook its feathers and fluttered nearby, leading Robin deeper into the swamp as if laying a trail for him to follow. The pal waited patiently while Robin made his way through until they came to a peaceful glade. Within, there were all manner of treasures and pals!

The misticpal brought a hex bag back to Robin, dropping it at his feet, looks like Robin made a new friend!

Chamber of Evil!
Posted: October 15, 2015

As chaos and candy rampaged through the circus, Albrecht gleefully opened the doors to his Chamber of Evil. All but the most loyal patrons flocked to his establishment in droves, desperate to have some Lanturnacht fun while avoiding the unplanned mishaps at the circus.

With the setting of the sun, Albrecht usurped the crowd's attention with booming, malicious laughter. "I, Albrecht von Emmerich, welcome treasure hunters and thrill seekers to my Chamber!" He emphasized his dubious-natured excitement with sharp jerks of his mangled cane. "Both treasures and horrors await you. Tread carefully... after all, you'll never be alone!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Painfully aware of their dwindling patronage, Jasper's desperation reached an all time high. "I don't understand it," he whispered. Ivy, at his side, gave him an encouraging pat on the back. He bent down to continue his examination of melted taffy. Further notes and collections at this point seemed moot.
At first, Jasper ignored the rustling in the foliage near him, assuming it was one of the nuisances running amok. Instead, out hopped a fairy frog.
The frog was nothing groundbreaking: pals got lost all the time. What got his attention was when the frog, attracted to the taffy's sickly sweetness, landed in it and mutated into a homely BatToad.
In both horror and excitement, Jasper exclaimed, "It's not taffy!"
Ivy looked over at Jasper, inquiry in her eyes. Jasper held up his talons, counting them slowly.
"Strange imp wants to join the circus. Odd green goo. Utter pandemonium. This taffy is really the residue of low-level imp magic!" He ignored the vaguely dirty look Ivy sent him.
Imp magic -- wasn't that something? At least now he knew the what and maybe the who. He just needed to be sure of the why.
Enjoy your journey into the chambers! Remember you can refill steps by being active about the site each day!
We have some returning items to the chamber:
And two new ones to find, for now!
Happy Hunting! Do not get lost!
This feature is a flash feature, we apologize that many on mobile devices cannot enter the Chamber due to technology limitations.
Some past items will be making an appearance in Monty's within the week and the newer ones may make an appearance as well for those unable to partake in the maze fun! Due to how finicky flash is, we recommend chrome for your maze-ing!
Please be aware of some of the consequences that may fall upon you, should you choose to enter the Chamber of Evil. Your pet could have it's food level changed or even lose some Hit Points! An item could be stolen from your inventory! You may lose some of your daily moves! You could even end up with an empty candy bowl. (how sad!) However... there are many amazing items waiting to be found within. Are you game?
Battle Update!
Posted: October 14, 2015
Greetings!
Grab a rag and clean off your equipment because it's time to talk battle.
It's been a while -- a looooong while -- since you've felt the thrills of battle, but know that soon you'll be back out there protecting Mistica once again. We've been hard at work to bring you something fun and engaging. The new battle system has been redesigned from the ground up to let you hop into battle as quickly and effortlessly as possible. For you more casual fighters, the system is more approachable than ever. For those might warriors who really like to get down into the nitty gritty, you'll find plenty of joy in fine-tuning your equipment, stats and special abilities to be the best you can be.
But what kind of features can we expect?
Excellent question. For now, I won't go into too much depth on any of these as they may be subject to change. This is also NOT an exhaustive list.
  • - PvP - Player vs Player battles (From Day 1!)
  • - Real-time battles - Battles happen in real-time without a single page refresh (even for PvP)
  • - Event Integration - Expect special, custom battles for special events
  • - Leveling system - Level up to 60 - Gain experience from quests, events, PvP and more!
  • - Abilities - As your level increases, pick from special abilities to enhance your skills in battle
  • - Smarter enemies - Improved AI that will react to your actions. They might even learn from their battles!
Keep in mind, this is not the final features list. As things progress, things may change slightly or drastically. With that said, you should expect more rather than less.
When!?
The short answer: When it's ready
The long answer: Whenever I'm sure that what is released is a solid product that you'll all hopefully enjoy. The battle system has been in development for quite some time and does need a bit more work in order to be a long-term feature that is maintainable as well as fun. However, we are getting quite close to our first round of testing. When testing is imminent we will definitely reach out to get feedback from you guys.
I hope you're getting as excited as we are.
Until next time!
Baffling!
Posted: October 12, 2015
Over the course of several days, they noticed continuous annoyances and odd circumstances. While making up a new batch of cotton candy, the staff sighed when all of it had mysteriously turned into spider webs. Soda fountains bubbled over and left everything sticky, and Jimbo had to wake up early to thaw out the lava for his game when it was discovered to have somehow frozen over. Everyone swore the carousels were suddenly haunted when they noticed the heads occasionally twitching and the strange, misty breaths that they were all taking though in that case Ivy eventually informed them that they always did that.
Every time something odd happened, Jasper located the same splotch of taffy nearby. He'd collected a sample from each of the locations, but other than the shimmering colors, there seemed to be nothing fantastic about them
“Okay Archie,” Jasper said with exasperation. “I think I've narrowed it down to either a taffy monster made of the ghosts of Lanturnacht candies past or lanturats getting into the taffy machine.”
“Um...taffy monster?” Archie replied skeptically.
Even Jasper admitted that neither of those seemed likely. The taffy machine was too tricky for a lanturat to get inside, and the little pests would have no doubt eaten a monster made of taffy by now. As he continued to ponder the dilemma, it suddenly occurred to him.
“Wait! Why haven't the lanturats been eating the melted taffy?” he thought aloud. Archie looked on with interest, wondering if his brother had suddenly figured it out. “Surely the little vermin would be all over it by now! Not a single potato chip goes unnoticed by the lanturats!”
This revelation in their quandary was intriguing to Archie. “So you're saying...?”
“I'm saying that there is more than meets the eye with this 'taffy',' if it's even taffy at all!”
As they both contemplated an explanation for the lanturats' lack of taste for the taffy, Jasper reached for a piece of wrapped taffy from the bowl he kept on his desk. He looked on in surprise as the candy began to twitch as though there were something alive inside of it. Sharp, artificial green claws poked through the purple label until there were little eye holes. The candy rolled off the desk onto the floor and skittered away on green legs, escaped through the gap between the bottom of the tent and the ground.
One by one little legs popped out of wrappers, the taffy candies got up and hopped off, and a ghoul sucker floated up through the fabric above and away into the sky. Once they had gone, the bowl lay barren, a single spent wrapper and the crumb of a hard candy the only sign that there had ever been candy in the bowl to begin with.
“Oh great, now all the candy is running away from home!” Jasper stated as he threw his hands up over his head. “Could this week get any more baffling?”
“I'll warn the staff and the guests to be on the lookout for it,” Archie said before pushing the tent flap aside and leaving to make the announcement.
“Oh. I guess they already figured it out themselves,” he said to himself when he stopped a moment to observe. He saw patrons fleeing from fanged treat bags; Ivy was skimming some squirming wad of sugar and corn syrup from the top of the punch machine with a pool net; and Skreetch
poking at what looked like a spider web made of wrappers and chewed gum with a stick, only to flee when a creature made of licorice dropped down to shake its fist at him.
“Baffling indeed...”
Opening?
Posted: October 9, 2015
Jasper couldn’t shake the feeling of discomfort that hovered over him as he traveled around the circus grounds. As time went by, that feeling grew into overwhelming uneasiness.
Strange events had been happening over the course of the day. His staff had come to him with claims about odd occurrences. They were typically small things at first, with items disappearing only to reappear elsewhere; he blamed the lanturats. It began to escalate that night when Valerie rushed to him, explaining that several of her game rings had mutated into znakes. He had to admit it was pretty odd and when he went to check out the tent, the only thing that remained of the rings was a strange green substance.
As Jasper continued making his rounds, he sought to find out just what was happening before he declared his circus open to the public. Ahead, the jinx caught sight of a couple of storage crates stacked neatly next to a tent with Archie walking towards them. But upon further inspection, he spied something green clinging to the wooden surface.
He was able to call out to his brother to stop him from picking up one of the crates when it cracked in his hands. Cracked wasn’t the right description he would use in this case – the crate and its peers each grew eight spindly limbs, and scurried away as if possessing a mind of their own.
Jasper didn’t have time to question the sheer strangeness when a bucket toppled over onto him. A shout escaped his lips; he grabbed the offending item and tossed it aside as he shook the water out of his fur.
“Bleh, Gregory hate ssswamp water!” Gregory grumbled on top of him. Jasper’s sharp eyes focused on where the bucket landed and he zeroed in on the same residue, clinging to the side of the rim. Picking the bucket up, Jasper traced over the substance with a clawed finger as he examined it. It looked like melted taffy. But why would taffy be stuck to a bucket?
“Just what is going on here?” Jasper growled, eyes gleaming in the moonlight overhead.
Circus Setup!
Posted: October 7, 2015
A dark-skinned figure stepped out from behind a cluster of Banshee Swamp’s twisted trees, eyes locking onto the circus in the clearing up ahead. It had taken him awhile, but he had finally made it. He released a breath he didn’t know he had been holding, straightening his furred jacket before brushing his curly red bangs out of his eyes. He had to make himself presentable after all. He was Prince Robin, son of King Mephitic and soon, a potential member of the circus. Whenever any of the imps mentioned the circus around his father back home, Robin would catch a fleeting wistful look in his eyes. Maybe he could make his father proud if he was accepted into Jasper’s famous circus.
Robin moved forward onto the circus ground as clouds drifted past the moon, determination settling on his face. It seemed that he came at the perfect time. Various pieces of equipment and crates were scattered about, and many of the tents were half covered with several staff members running about. Traveling past several tents, Robin’s eyes searched for a sign of the circus’ owner. He didn’t have to search for long as he caught sight of a bright orange hat perched on top of a jinx who was walking away from several staff. Excitement welled up within him, but there was also a feeling of hesitancy that began to pool in his stomach. Before any second thoughts could take root, he proudly approached the individual, a confident grin lighting up Robin’s face.
“Mr. Jasper sir!” Upon hearing his name coming from a voice he didn’t recognize, Jasper turned around, orange eyes scanning the area suspiciously before landing on Robin. The said imp closed the distance between them. Jasper repositioned his monocle as he drew himself up, a part of him curious as to why an imp approached him.
“I want to join your circus!”
“Did I hear that correctly? You want to join my circus?” Jasper asked, narrowing his eyes a bit at Robin as he processed what he had said. Although he was quite used to many interesting characters asking the same question year after year, an imp had been the last ones he would have expected. He looked the imp up and down carefully as if considering something. Him, join his circus? That was something that he never thought could happen.
Sorry kid. My circus is more than just childish fun. Now, if you excuse me, I’m quite busy.” Jasper waved the young Imp off with a clawed hand. The grin on Robin’s face fell from his lips at that motion, shocked that he had been outright rejected without a chance to show off his skills. Hesitantly, he glanced up at the hat, silently seeking another opinion. Gregory’s gleaming yellow eyes peered down at Robin for a moment but didn’t speak. Jasper turned and walked away before the prince could think up a response or ask him why he couldn’t join, raising a hand as if to reach out to stop him.
Robin stood there and blinked, a hurt expression passing over his face as he stared after the retreating back of Jasper. No? He was still stunned as he turned to walk away. Why did he get rejected? Was it something he said? Did he do something wrong? Robin pulled himself out of his train of thoughts when he caught movement from another individual approaching Jasper and paused in halfway behind a tent canvas.
“What was that all about, Jasper?” Archie asked in a curious tone. A huff escaped Jasper, and he gave a dismissive shrug while the two brothers made their way between the tents, “He wanted to join the circus.” He stated matter-of-factly. He had enough problems with himself being a jinx. If he allowed an imp to join, who knows what might happen?
Chaos probably.
Robin brought a clawed finger up to tap his chin, thinking as he reached the circus limit. If he couldn’t join the circus, then maybe it was time to make his fun instead. He would show Jasper just how good his tricks and abilities were. Then, possibly, the jinx would reconsider rejecting him! A tug pulled on his lips, betraying a small smile that started to form on his face.
Lanturnacht Tale Concludes!
Posted: October 6, 2015
The third and last day of Jahzara's tale was upon her, and the fortune-teller did not disappoint. Wearing her usual knowing little smirk the woman sat once again, and as before, a small crowd had soon gathered around her. She was patient and waited until every straggler had settled down, then let silence fall for a few seconds, allowing anticipation to build.
"We come finally," she intoned, and it was as if her audience's ears had pricked up visibly, "To the very end of Lanturnaucht's tale. Jack, having frightened the malicious phantom who had attacked his dear sister, spoke before the entire village. In one hand he held a pommekin...but it was unlike anything seen before.
The inside glowed! The settlers marveled at the frightening thing as Jack began to explain. He had hollowed out the inside and placed within it a brightly burning candle, then on the face of the pommekin, carved a pair of evil looking eyes and a wide, jagged mouth. Light and a pommekin, the phantom's two fears, together in one!
Well, the villagers were astonished, and there was no argument: they set to work immediately, hollowing out pommekins, gathering candles, and carving the most horrific faces they could think of onto the fruits. Then they placed them around the outside of their village and around their homes, so the night glowed with the fitfully flickering lights of hundreds of small candles.
And that night...was silent. As was the day after." Jahzara smiled and she opened her mouth wide, allowing her voice to carry loudly over the people sitting around her. "The settlers had won! The phantoms never visited again, except to creep along the edges of the village, snarling but unable to cause any harm. The candle-filled pommekins were called Jack O' Lanterns in honor of their creator. Years later Darkwood Hollow would be tame enough for the lanterns to not be needed, and that, my dears, is how our beloved Lanturnaucht came about."
The storyteller stood abruptly, fixing her listeners with bright, knowing eyes. With a small chuckle Jahzara swept away, her skirts swirling about her ankles, and she was lost in the darkness once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wait, there's something more to reveal tonight!

The Phantom Caribyss has surfaced!

And we have a delightful revamp of the Lanturn Kratork to reveal:

As of this newspots, there were NO lanturn Kratorks in existence on the site. We think this revamp may just change that!

Banshee Swamp!
Posted: October 5, 2015

The remnants of a past moon, illuminated by the perpetual arrogance of the sun, gaze absentmindedly over an eerily quiet swamp. The years have been neither kind nor unkind to it and its inhabitants; one may even say that Banshee Swamp is alive with an uncharacteristically electric anticipation. A lone figure reclines on the moldy wood of the docks, provided company by only the bitter chill and gas rising from the gently sloshing water surface.

"That's it then," he murmurs to himself. For good measure, he repeats this to himself and puffs out his chest in newfound confidence. "That's it."

Abruptly, while the night is still young, the figure takes his leave.

With October festivities beginning, we have word that something big has changed in Banshee Swamp! Mind the swamp water as you head on over to see what’s new!

Lanturnacht Tale Continues!
Posted: October 4, 2015

Jahzara arranged herself once more by her archaic fire pit, pulling at and smoothing out her colorful, voluminous skirts as she sat. The woman was quite aware of the eyes glued to her as listeners began gathering again, all eager for the rest of Lanturnaucht’s tale. Jahzara fixed them all with a sly little smile and spoke.

Jahzara

“Last I left you,” she began, her low, hypnotic voice carrying easily, so every ear heard clearly, “our story had barely begun. Phantoms were terrorizing the innocent, new settlers of Darkwood Hollow. They had conquered their fear of the daylight and were not restricting their attacks to the moonlit hours anymore. Settlers found themselves pelted with pommes every hour of the day; it was relentless, merciless…yet no one had risen up to fight back.” Jahzara’s smile widened; she paused, letting her words bury themselves deeper into her audience’s minds.

“Then a young Mistican named Jill was struck hard on the head with a clockwork pomme. Her older brother, Jack, became enraged at the unprovoked attack. His sister was sweet, docile…and how dare anyone, he thundered, attack her!” Jahzara’s voice had risen powerfully, but then her volume suddenly dropped. Her listeners leaned in closer. “Impulsive and angry, Jack hefted a pommekin and hurled it at the cackling phantom with all his strength - and it drove the creature away!

The cause…well, no one could really understand it, but it seemed that the phantoms feared pommekins. Jack concocted a brilliant plan…and prepared to address the entire group of settlers - the lone, brave soul willing to stand up for the beaten down Misticans.” And Jahzara stopped there, much to her audience’s consternation. She simply smiled her serene, mysterious little smile at their protests and outbursts, standing gracefully and smoothing out her skirts once again, obviously preparing to leave. “I will be back with the ending tomorrow,” she said, “so use this time to think on what I have already said.” With that, Jahzara turned and swept away from the fire, swallowed by darkness.

Lanturnacht Tale!
Posted: October 3, 2015

The reclusive Jahzara has decided to grace us Misticans with her eerie appearance once again to tell the story of Lanturnaucht. She settled down around an old fashioned fire pit, her eyes almost glowing in the fitful orange light. A small, knowing little smile played across her face as she watched the listeners gather around her.

“Once again,” she began in a low voice, almost a whisper, so everyone’s ears pricked and they leaned in closer, “I’ve come to regale you with the tale of Lanturnaucht - there are new faces from last year, after all…” She smiled slightly wider. “My telling will, I believe, be shorter this time, so mind you listen closely.” Her voice hadn’t raised at all, but something in her eyes said she meant every word as though it’d been shouted.

“Darkwood Hollow,” she continued in a louder voice that seemed to resound around her, enrapturing her audience, “was not always so tame. When the first settlers came here years ago, years before Lanturnaucht was even thought of, it was a treacherous place for those who…did not belong. Your forefathers faced many perils to make even our small part of the woods safe, and one of them brought about this celebration.

Phantoms were terrorizing the humble settlers, you see. Their home had not been abused in any manner but they seemed to find it…entertaining…to come out in the dead of night, when the air was chill and the forest floor was black, the moonlight blocked by the forest’s thick, leafy canopy. The phantoms would take handfuls of pommes from the trees and hurl them mercilessly…many of the settlers took injuries because of it, and they would wake every morning to see their small wooden cabins damaged - sometimes partly caved in - from the constant barrage of pommes. This only happened at night; the phantoms seemed to fear the sunrise, and for this the settlers were grateful.” Here Jahzara paused, her bright eyes fixing those before her with a hard, piercing stare to be sure they were paying attention.

“But soon the phantoms conquered the light,” she said in almost a whisper, and the eyes of her audience widened, “and the settlers found themselves trapped, facing the terrors both day and night.” She fell silent and her smirk deepened. “And here…is where I leave you, for now,” she said finally, chuckling in a knowing sort of way, confident her audience would come back for more.
