"Ahh, it seems to be that time of year again – the trees are budding, the flowers blooming, and Misticans from every corner of Mistica are enjoying themselves with the spring celebrations. Colorful eggs of all sorts of different colors and designs abound. But have you ever wondered why we celebrate by dying eggs? Let me tell you, darlings, it is much deeper than food coloring and rubber bands. Come, gather ‘round, and let me enlighten you.
It all began long, long ago, when Mistica was still young and its population small. The Misticpets led very simple lives; most worked on small farms, growing only enough food to support their families. However, the winds of change were brewing not too far beyond the horizon. More and more Misticans were growing tired of the old ways of life and were beginning to leave the fields in favor of more skilled and lucrative careers such as blacksmithing and fashion design
.
At first these brave souls made up the small minority of the population, as primitive farming technologies and bitter winters kept work plentiful and harvests small. But the winters became warmer, and the Misticans developed better and better technologies. As food became more plentiful and easier to grow, more were able to move into growing towns to become artisans and scholars. Culture was thriving and, with the still fairly small population, the dwindling number of farmers was able to keep food on the tables of Mistica.
Following a rather plentiful harvest, though, this delicate balance was disrupted. With the increase in food came a population boom the likes of which Mistica had never seen. The farmers struggled to keep up with new demands, but despite their best efforts Misticans everywhere were going hungry. They fell to their knees and prayed to Pandoria, begging for some form of help. Of course, the kind goddess obliged. She bestowed upon her people magical eggs from which hatched creatures dubbed “hatchipals.” They were strong and robust creatures who were excellent for assisting in the fields. With their help the farmers were able to increase food production enough to provide for the entirety of Mistica’s increased population.
After seeing how useful the hatchipals were to the farmers, Misticans of other trades prayed to Pandoria for their own hatchipals as well. Unable to deny her precious Misticpets, Pandoria answered every prayer. However, as Pandoria created more and more hatchipals to meet the Misticans' demands, her power drained until she became very weak and fell ill.
The Misticans felt terrible about causing their beloved goddess harm. They nursed her back to health and, to show their thanks for all that she had given them, showered her with decorated eggs on her birthday. This blossomed into a Mistican tradition, where Misticpets gift Pandoria with decorated eggs on her birthday in order to show their thanks for all that she does.
And that, my dear Misticans, is why we decorate eggs every spring. So gather your eggs and dye, and thank Pandoria for all she does for each and every one of us."
