A Mistmas Miracle
Posted: December 31, 2016

Back in the Diamond Glacier, things were taking an… interesting turn of events.

The once dreary looking castle that Boreal resided in looked a lot more festive that it should have. Festive lights were anchored along every rooftop while the trees outside were decorated with great care. Scattered across the snowy landscape were elegantly designed snowman and gifts were being exchanged by all the residence at the castle. If any Mistican would have caught sight of the spectacle, they would say that Boreal finally went crazy.

Inside, Boreal continued to relax on her throne, taking small sips of her belle flower tea that she had perfected in making just a while ago. No sneezes and coughing were heard from her. No more creating monsters from snow nor any more of those annoying singing snowflakes to be seen. The flower’s magic worked quickly to dispel any signs of her being sick in the first place and she was much happier than usual.

Her eyes drifted to a Kohal who skittered across the throne room’s gleaming floors, dragging a long stream of brightly colored lights behind him. A Jinx followed some ways after him, balancing a small wintercursed tree along his back that was filled with crystalized decorations as they headed to towards the far hall, where both got to work to set up the tree.

Not once did Boreal’s mouth open to yell at them. As promised, she wouldn’t try and ruin Mistmas for everyone. Besides, everyone had to have a break once and a while, and boy did she need it after everything that had happened. She didn’t even care when several pets started to decorate the hall.

Perhaps… the new year would be a lot better than this year. A small smirk tugged at the corners of her lips as she took another sip of the tea.

However, as the new year loomed ever closer, Aurelius was nowhere to be seen... Where could he be?

A Happy Conclusion
Posted: December 25, 2016

If you had asked a few days ago, Charitee would have told you that the absolute worst thing she could have imagined was the pets waking up in the morning to find a barren tree devoid of gifts. Today she found there was a worse fear yet realized when she discovered two empty beds while checking on the pets in the middle of the night.

They could only follow tiny footprints so far before they were covered by snowdrifts. Bernard had one comforting trunk on Charitee's shoulder and tried to calm her while the neighborhood was out searching. "Maybe they were taken in by a sprite. They'll probably be back by the time the snow lets up!" he told her, hoping against hope that his positive words would actually bring comfort to her.

"Look! Over there!" someone shouted. There was a sound of jingle bells, a grinding sound like something being dragged across the snow, and a snazzy jazz number about the joys of working in Meriklaus' workshop. "It's the snowbeast!"

"He's got the presents!" another said.

"Is that the children?" Bernard asked when he saw two tiny pets sitting in the front seat in front of a mound of gifts.

The snowbeast held his head high and proud as he dragged the sleigh towards the pound. More tiny pets poured out, cheering, as they ran towards Serena and Benson, arms extended and ready to produce gleeful hugs at the safe return of their missing friends. Charitee scooped them both up and nearly smothered them as she cried with thankful joy at their return.

She held them both out away from her face. "Where have you both been?" she demanded.

"We went to see Boreal!" Serena replied.

"And we brought her a flower!" Benson added.

"And she had a cold, so she thanked us for the flower..."

"And she apologized for sending the monster to ruin our Mistmas."

"But it turns out he's not a monster at all and he's really nice."

"And then Boreal gave us some singing snowflakes..."

Charitee soon interrupted them both when it became hard to keep up. "Slow down, one at a time!"

The snowbeast stood by the sleigh and looked around as everyone gathered around him with curiosity. His eyes lit up and his stubby little tail waggled when he saw the quartet of poofs hiding in the way back. He clearly remembered them just as well as they remembered him.

There were hushed whispers as everyone discussed the monster before them. "Didn't he attack the poofs and steal the gifts?" one said.

"But he brought them back," another pointed out. "Why would he bring them all back if he was bad?"

"He's not a bad monster!" Serena spoke up. "He's a good monster! He helped us find our way to Boreal and then took us both home!"

"I think he just wanted to be friends with the poofs and scared them by accident. He took care of all of our presents so they could come back and get them," Benson added.

"Is that true?" All of the whispering voices in the crowd hushed. They parted to make way for Mariklaus, who was tailed by her four poofs. "I came to collect my poofs and shyres and couldn't help but overhear...did you really take care of all of these gifts all this time?" The snowbeast whimpered and nodded. "That was very kind of you to do so."

"Where is he going to stay?" Serena asked.

"Can he stay here with us?" Benson added.

Charitee looked at the snowbeast in horror as she tried to picture how much food a snowbeast would eat and how much room he would take up. "I don't know if that's such a good idea..." she admitted.

"Why he can stay with us," Meriklaus offered. The snowbeast's ears perked up and he made a little sound of excitement at the offer. "We need someone to help pull the mail carts at the workshop, and they're just a little too heavy for the poofs to do it alone. Maybe you can come and help us?"

The snowbeast squealed with glee and hugged Meriklaus as the little poofs, no longer afraid of him, swarmed his feet and leaned in for a group poof hug. She realized that her feet were off the ground when she felt them touching the cold snow again as he placed her down.

"I think that's a yes," Benson laughed.

And so the pound got their pets back, Serena and Benson made it home in time for Mistmas, and the snowbeast finally had friends and a home. It truly was a magical Mistmas after all. Well, except for the one matter that still needed to be taken care of...

"You're taking the snowflakes with you too, right?" Charitee asked Meriklaus when they started getting a little obnoxious.

Homeward Bound
Posted: December 24, 2016

Boreal's shut door made it obvious to the two pets, four singing snowflakes, and snowbeast that it was now time to go.

The snowbeast made several grumbling grunts as it bent down to the smaller pet's level. The sudden movement attracted their attention and Serena and Benson had tilted their heads in confusion. After all, they couldn't really understand what the beast was telling them. As if realizing this, the massive white bear returned to his full height and lifted one giant paw, pointing a sharp talon in a very specific direction. They blinked and peered in that direction but couldn't see anything but swirling snow and a vast snow covered forest in the distance.

A large huff escaped the beast and it lumbered off in the southern direction that he had indicated. Since the snowfall around these parts was worse than normal thanks to Boreal's cold, the kids were having trouble keeping up with the beast and wished he'd carry them once more.

"I wonder where he's taking us?" Serena voiced both of their thoughts after a few minutes of following the beast and sinking once more into the snow. Benson was having an easier time since he was more accustomed to the cold weather and snow, but even he found it a little bit difficult to navigate. The snow had fallen so much that it was up to their shoulders by the time they had reached Boreal's castle. No telling how deep it would be by the time they got back. The singing snowflakes, with their newfound freedom, bounced alongside two baby pets, reciting different "Night Before Mistmas" stories to keep their spirits up.

"I'm not sure, Ren. But I'm sure we'll find out." The cub had to shout over the snowflakes and shrugged before climbing over a partially visible rock that stuck up out of the snow. They continued for some time before the beast stopped in its tracks, happily observing something that was just on the other side of the snow drift that they stood upon. Getting excited, Benson and Serena rushed to catch up, but as soon as they almost made it to the top, the cub tripped over his oversized paws and started to tumble down the other side of the snow bank.

Benson gave a startled yelp as he was suddenly picked up mid-tumble. The inarbu was about to struggle when he stared down at what he was about to crash into, eyes wide. Everything seemed to grow silent, even the singing snowflakes following them had grown quiet.

A...present? A whole pile of presents? On a sleigh?

The missing packages!

His eyes lit up as he was carefully placed back on the ground, a concerned grunt coming from the beast as if to ask him if he was alright. Benson was shaken, but nodded his head to let the larger bear know that he was alright, though embarrassed. Serena was at his side in a heartbeat, looking over her friend to make sure he was indeed alright before turning to the snow beast.

"The presents! D-did you take care of them all this time?" she asked in surprise. The beast nodded, a toothy grin settling on his face before he turned and started to dig through the snow, as if trying to find something buried within while the kids marveled at the tall stacks of presents resting within the snow-covered sleigh. The snowflakes jumped up and down on top of the presents, cheering once more.

The beast tugged something up and presented it to the baby pets. It was a rope! A rope that was attached to the sleigh. Did that mean? Serena and Benson tilted their heads up, big smiles lighting up their faces at the realization of what he was trying to ask them.

"You'll help us deliver them? That's so generous of you, Mr. Snowbeast sir!" Benson said with a small bow of his little head before he and lirionox both hopped up onto the sleigh. A happy sound echoed from deep within the beast's chest as he gripped the rope tightly and started to pull the sleigh full of presents behind him. The four snowflakes started to sing "Dashing Through the Snow" as they continued onwards. But instead of a shyre, they sang of a snowbeast that was pulling their sleigh!

Next stop- the pound!

A Flower For Boreal
Posted: December 22, 2016

A shrill shriek rang from one end of the castle to the other as a kohal ran screaming, his arms in the air and bow disheveled. An investigating jinx guard soon joined him in hiding inside a cupboard after he discovered the source of the kohal's distress was that they had run out of chicken stock for the queen's chicken soup and she'd already consumed the last tablet of cold and flu medicine.

With all the kohal servants and guards hiding for their lives, Boreal grumbled as she went to answer the knock at the door herself. Her hair was in disarray, she had a blanket draped over her shoulders like a cape, and a pack of tissues poked out of her pocket. A trio of magic snowflakes followed her obnoxiously singing Mistmas carols after her latest sneeze, making her contemplate making a pit stop to find a hairdryer.

"What do you want?" Boreal asked as she answered the door. Her eyes widened when she saw that the intruders on her doorstep were two small pets, each sitting in the extended paws of one massive snow monster.

"Merry Mistmas!" both the pets said in unison. The snowbeast simultaneously made a sound that mimicked the Mistican language.

"What is the meaning of this? How did you get past the..." Boreal looked behind the snowbeast and realized that the wintercursed eledon guards had hidden themselves from her under the snow, only their trunks exposed to allow them to breathe. She looked back at the pets, wondering what possibly could they want? Didn't they know who she was? Why wasn't that deterrent enough to keep them away from her castle?

The tiny lirionox looked at the ground while the wee inarbu cleared his throat. "On behalf of the pets at Charitee's Pound, we want you to have this gift and a very merry Mistmas this year!" he reiterated the line he'd been rehearsing on the way. He extended his paws in offering of the belle flower. Benson looked at Serena as though to ask, "How did I do?"

"We're sorry we never invited you to any of our parties," Serena added. "Please don't be mad at us anymore!"

Boreal sputtered as she looked back and forth from the pets and at the snowbeast, whose existence was as of yet unexplained to her. "The only Mistmas that has been ruined this year is my own-AH-CHOO!" Another magical snowflake appeared and became the trio's much needed soprano. She reached into her pocket and withdrew one of the tissues to blow her nose.

The pets both frowned. "You didn't try to ruin our Mistmas by sending the monster to steal our toys?" Serena asked.

"Sending a monster to...?" Something in Boreal's mind clicked. She looked from the snowbeast at the door to the enchanted snowflakes that were loudly belting out their demands for Mistic puddings behind her. "I mean yes, that was entirely what I meant to do," she said less than sincerely. Oh this blasted cold. When would it ever go...wait a minute...

Boreal took a closer look at the flower that Benson was still offering. "Is...is that a belle flower?" she asked. She took it from him and instantly her demeanor lit up. "It is! And such a large size, too!" she said with joy. "This is just what I needed to cure my cold!"

"You needed a belle flower?" Serena laughed playfully.

"Yes! The magical properties of belle flowers can cure colds! All I need to do is make some tea..." They were surprised when she spun around the room with joy, holding the flower and describing the process of making belle flower tea. Suddenly she remembered she had an audience and returned to her stony manner. "Um. Thank you. In exchange for this flower, I uh...revoke my wrath and promise not to ruin your Mistmas anymore this year," she promised. She turned her head to the snowflakes, who were beat boxing about wrapping gifts. "Also, do you want them?"

A Mistmas Monster
Posted: December 21, 2016

Time seemed to have stopped as the orphaned pets stared up at the looming snow beast in front of them, mouths agape in silent screams. Their eyes were locked with its mysterious but frightening gaze, their bodies frozen where they stood. Only when a low grunt came from the beast did they seem to regain the ability to move. Two terrified screams ripped from the baby lirionox and inarbu's mouths. Hearts thumping wildly in their chest, the two pets whirled around and fled, or tried to through the deep snow.

The snow beast tilted its head and went to reach for the inarbu as he was the closest one withing reach. The baby lirionox's sharp eyes caught the movement and reacted almost instantly. "Benson! Watch out!" she barked over the howling wind before ramming her friend out of the way. Spinning around as the tiny bear cub sank a few inches into the snow where he had fallen, Serena lashed out at the beast, tiny claws raking across the pearly white arm.

A small whine, not at all what they were expecting coming from the looming figure, excaped the beast's mouth as it drew its arms back, peering down at the tiny scratches beneath the waving fur. The distraction was enough to where Serena bounded over to her fallen friend and nudged him, making sure he was alright.

Without any way of knowing where to go, the baby pets turned their attention back to the snow beast, who hadn't moved a muscle after them, ignoring them as it whimpered and nursed its arm as if it were really hurt. Benson blinked before looking over at his friend as he slowly got to his feet, shivering. That was strange. If a beast of that size wanted to hurt them, then it would have done it already. What if...as crazy as it sounded, this beast meant no harm? Sure it was a crazy thought, but they were lost and maybe, just maybe the beast could show them the direction to the castle.

"Serena, m-maybe we could ask him which d-direction that B-Boreal's castle i-is?" he whispered, teeth chattering loudly. The pup next to him just stared at him with eyes full of concern and astonishment. Them? Ask this beast that had tried to attack them? For directions? Was he crazy? Another look from him was enough to make her groan slightly.

The beast rested on its haunches and stared down at the two pets before it, a curious look in its eyes despite how intimidating it seemed. Slowly, Serena gained the courage to take a shaky step forward and cleared her throat. "U-um... D-do you know the w-way to B-Boreal's castle by any c-chance, M-mister Snow Beast s-sir?" The poor pet was shaking like a leaf, a combination of being scared and of the freezing temperature.

At the name Boreal, the beast seemed to perk up, a grumbling grunt rumbling from deep within its chest as it smiled and nodded. Lumbering off the way it had come, the snowy animal gave a grunt and a glance to tell them to accompany it. Benson and Serena paused, eyes locked onto one another before silently deciding that they should indeed follow this beast, despite how dangerous it sounded.

Perfect Present
Posted: December 17, 2016

Petals that glimmered like ice sprouted up through the snow. The inviting sweetness of their smell attracted inarbees in droves. It was not hard to find where one was growing when you watched were the tiny flying bears congregating. The inarbees were more than capable of digging for the Belle Flowers when needed, revealing more and more flowers sprouting up everywhere.

“We have to find one that's absolutely perfect!” Benson, the baby inarbu, said.

“Don't Belle Flowers only grow in the snow?” Serena, his lirionox companion, asked. “What if Boreal has them all over her castle already?”

Benson shook his head at his friend. “Bernard says that they need both Mistmas magic and inarbees to grow. Inarbees don't go near Boreal's castle, and there is no Mistmas magic at Boreal's because she's usually so grouchy, so there isn't any way for them to thrive.”

“Oh,” was all she said. They watched inarbees dig in tandem with tiny paws until they found the flowers that were hidden in snowdrifts.

“What about that one?” Serena pointed a paw at a flower that had taken a whopping six inarbees to help dig out.

The flower had massive, translucent petals that looked like frost forming against a window pane and glimmered in the light of a street lamp. It truly had a sweet smell that reminded one of winter, like baking gingerbread cookies and hot cocoa.

“I think that one is perfect!” Benson agreed.

Serena approached the tired inarbees, knowing it was wrong just to take something that they had worked so hard for.

“Is it okay if we take this flower when you're done with it?” she asked them. The six inarbees all looked at each other in silent communication, then looked back at her. Each of them nodded.

“Thank you!” Serena exclaimed.

Once they retrieved their flower, the pair headed off for Boreal's castle. They knew where it was only because so many people had told them in the past never to go in that direction. Which was the exact reason why they agreed not to tell anyone where they were going, for fear that someone would stop them.

They'd been walking for almost an hour, and neither of them felt as though they were making any progress. The baby pets both shivered from the cold, which was good for the Belle Flower that the inarbu had clutched in his paws, but bad for the two lost little pets who had no idea if they were even still going in the right direction or not.

“Boreal's castle is a lot farther than I realized,” Serena said as she shivered. The two of them walked pressed up against each other's side to try to stay warm.

“Maybe we should head back,” Benson agreed.

They both turned around and noticed that the wind and snow was rapidly covering their footprints. “W-where is back?” Serena asked. They both watched in horror as their footprints were erased, removing any chance that they, or anyone else, could follow them.

A cracking branch caught the pets' attention, and suddenly they both realized that they weren't alone. Both of them shivered side by side, the flower clutched in hand, hoping that it was nothing more than a friendly arctic vix or maybe even a noble stignightus who could help them.

That was when they saw it peeking out at them from between the barren trees. Two eyes that burned of magic essence and thick, arctic fur that blew in the strong, winter wind, and claws that they were both aware were perfect for grabbing little pets.

They suddenly realized why the poofs were so terrified.

Mistmas Trouble?
Posted: December 16, 2016

The ground started to tremble, causing the Misticans to halt what they were doing; some of them sprinting around to catch a falling decoration or rescue a poor pet that found itself buried in a pile of snow knocked loose from the rooftops. Murmurs started to spread throughout the crowd, wondering what on earth was happening.

In the distance, several shrilled whinnies were heard, along with faint jingles as thunderous hoofbeats pounded the ground. A pair of Shyres emerged over the hill, throwing up freshly fallen snow in the chilly air. As the whole town froze in fear, Aurelius was quick to act, holding up his hands and talking to the frightened horses in a gentle tone as they came closer. The shyres slid to a stop and reared, tossing the equally spooked poofs to the ground.

The poofs squeaked and darted across the snow-covered ground, zigzagging through the hooves to avoid getting trampled on. They stopped in front of Charitee and jumped up and down, jingling all the while. The Guradhi knelt down and gently picked up one of the poofs. Before she could ask what was going on, the quivering poof jumped onto her shoulder and attempted to hide in her feathers. She frowned before looking down at the shaking poofs, then up at the shyres, who were now starting to calm down thanks to Aurelius’ words.

“What on Mistica happened?” The poof attempting to hide in her feathers squeaked. “A monster? What do you mean Boreal sent a big mean monster to attack you?” All at once they began chirping in unison. With a heavy heart, Charitee realized what they were telling her. “The monster took the presents,” she said to a simultaneous gasp from the crowd. She placed the shaking poof on the ground and turned to Aurelius and Bernard. “Might I speak with you?” she requested solemnly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two heads peeked out unnoticed from behind a tree, listening in on Charitee’s discussion. Boreal… Even though they were young, they had heard stories being told about Boreal and her failed attempt at stopping Mistmas each year. But they didn’t understand, why was the fallen star so bitter when everyone should be happy during this time of year? Would she stoop so low as to sending a monster to ruin Mistmas for everyone?
“Do you really think Boreal sent the monster?” the voice of a tiny lirionox asked. “Why does she want to ruin our Mistmas so badly?” she asked.
The little inarbu next to her shook his head. “Maybe she's just sad because no one ever invites her to our parties?” he suggested. It seemed logical to one so young. The pound charity event was being treated pretty much as one big party. Maybe she got jealous that no one thought to send her an invitation. “Come on! I have an idea!” he said before scampering off.
The baby lirionox gave her friend a curious but suspicious look as she followed the cub away from the pound. Just what was he planning and where on Mistica was he going? “What are you doing? You know Miss Charitee is going to notice we're missing if we leave. We should go back before someone catches us!”
“If Boreal is trying to ruin Mistmas because no one invites her to celebrate with us, maybe we should go to her, so she doesn't have to be alone,” the inarbu replied. “Let's bring her a gift! That way she'll see that she doesn't have to hate Mistmas so much!”
The little lirionox sighed. An internal struggle ran through her mind. Normally, she wasn't one to sneak off, but the small canine knew inside she had to accompany her pal. What if he got injured or found himself in a situation where he needed help? She could be there to save him... That is what friends were for, right?
“Do you know what we're going to give her?” she asked.
The inarbu cub watched a clump of snow fall from a tree branch, which drew his eye to something glistening from amidst the pile of cold. “I think I know just the thing!” he said cheerfully.
Merry and Bright!
Posted: December 13, 2016
Little pets up past their bedtimes fought for spaces at the pound's windows as they watched the sky light up with the rest of Mistica. The pitter patter of their feet down the halls gave them away as they ran to greet the stranger who returned from the realm beyond Mistica. Aurelius smiled as he came to say hi to the pets and Charitee.
“Word traveled through the stars that the pound was in need of some help, so I traveled faster than usual to get here a little earlier this year,” he said as he withdrew from his pocket a pouch filled with a sparkling powder. “I brought you some stardust!” With that, he grabbed a handful of the dust and blew it towards the tree. Instantly the tree was awash with iridescent sparkles that had pets and volunteers alike in awe at the sight.
Charitee was overwhelmed with joy at the support that poured in. Gordon, Erika, and Clayton put aside their differences and were all working together to plan, prepare, and deliver a Mistmas day feast and Lance donated boxes of warm clothes so that the pets could enjoy the snow that continued to fall almost daily in small drifts.
Still, there was one worry that remained on Charitee's mind as she looked at the meager offering of gifts under the tree. “There are a lot of pets in the pound these days, and even with the donations pouring in, I hope that there will be enough for all of them to have at least one.” Bernard merely smiled, knowing that there was still one last gift for the pets that had yet to come.
Meanwhile...
A quartet of poofs excitedly hopped up in down in the back of a small sleigh led by a pair of wintergala shyres. They had worked extra hard to prepare these gifts for the pound so that their tree wouldn't look so barren and empty. The more they gibbered and jabbered about how excited they were to see the pet's faces when they saw their gifts, the less aware of their surroundings they were. It wasn't until the shyres stopped so abruptly that one little poof went flying and landed face first in a snowdrift that they noticed they weren't alone. There was a little jingle as he popped his head out of the snow, which now covered his hat, to see what was the matter.
Standing in front of them was a great snowbeast, the likes of which the poofs had never seen. The shyres reared up when the sight of the beast had them spooked and the poofs all recoiled in fear. The shyres kicked free of the reigns that bound them and took off, the equally terrified poofs racing off after their steeds, one scared little poof clinging by his mouth from the feathered tail of the fastest shyre.
The flurries fell from the icy sky, collecting on the gifts scattered in the snow and in the fur of the snowbeast looming over them.
Ah-CHOO!
Posted: December 12, 2016
Deep within the icy reaches of the Diamond Glacier, a lone figure stalked through her massive castle. Every few minutes or so, an unusual sound echoed through the halls, startling the few Jinx that were in the area. Even a few Kohals scattered in different directions as the sound came again, this time louder than before.
“Blast this! Why did Pandoria even invent colds? Apparently just to make me miserab-...Ah-AH-CHOO!”
Bursting through a large door into another hallway, Boreal covered her mouth as she coughed once more. An annoyed growl passed through gritted teeth as she glared ahead of her. This entire thing was getting ridiculous! How had she managed to get a cold? Out of everything that could happen to her, the fallen star was overtaken by a lousy cold! None of her home remedies had worked. In fact, they only seemed to make her cold worse. Not only that, her magic was starting to become unstable.
Her Kohals and Jinx were afraid to come near her after what happened a few hours before. A brave but unlucky Jinx guard had almost been frozen solid for approaching Boreal with news about their patrol around the area. Unfortunately, she had been trying to work in the last ditch recipe to get rid of the annoying ailment that afflicted her at that time and wasn’t too keen on being interrupted.
She coughed once again, this time heavier and louder than before, then sneezed a great sneeze that startled a pair of Kohals sitting two corridors away, causing Boreal to growl before she stormed off, yelling at no one in particular. The force of the sneeze disturbed a large pile of snow that rested up in the beams of the castle. Bit by bit it loosened before gravity took hold, sending it with a wet thump to the floor.
The snow pile rested for only a minute before it began moving, twisting, forming a large and looming figure birthed from a small amount of magic that Boreal had discharged with her cold-induced sneeze.
The snow beast rose up to its full height, grunting before lumbering off, its heavy footsteps causing the ground to vibrate as it went.
Mistmas Cheer
Posted: December 10, 2016
A plump and fuzzy inarbee sat contently atop Bernard's trunk. He smiled in wonder at the tiny critter and offered it a honey drop. “It's a good year for inarbees!” he said fondly. “Why there's so many of them that it's no wonder the belle flowers are in as widespread bloom as they are!”
“Yes, they sure are lovely,” Charitee said of the delicate and rare winter flowers that had sprouted up through the snow-dusted grass. Several of them could be seen growing on the other side of the fence that surrounded the outdoor dining area of Keilly's Kafe, most of them already opened to the chilly air that they thrived in.
Bernard frowned as he couldn't help but notice that she wasn't as interested in the flowers or inarbees as he was. In fact, during the entire lunch break, she seemed quiet and distant. “Are you okay, Charitee? You seem distracted, and you've hardly touched your omelet.”
“May I confide in you?” she asked. “I don't know if I can give the pets a good Mistmas this year. No one's donating like they used to and the last of our funds went towards fixing the damage to the building from the Mandoran Rally.”
Bernard frowned. So that's why his dear friend was so conflicted. He smiled and extended his trunk towards her, allowing the inarbee to fly up and kiss her nose before leaving to pollinate more belle flowers. “It's nothing to worry about, Charitee. You just focus on keeping them warm and fed. That's all that matters.”
Somehow Charitee wasn't reassured. After finishing their bimonthly lunch date, she and Bernard parted ways. She returned and reopened the donation stand while Bernard presumably returned to his shop to sell all the best pals Blizzard's Realm had to offer. She waited with a baited smile for half a day, only to receive some melted ice cream cones and another stupid inarbutt pillow.
~~~~~~~~~

Eventually, she decided to turn in for the night. She closed the donations and went inside to tuck the pets in and read them a bedtime story. When she reached the pound's massive playroom, she stood with confusion in the darkened doorway. She thought she could hear whispering.

“What in the world...” she said as she flipped the light switch.

Instantly the room was awash with colorful Mistmas lights, which sparkled off of the garland and tinsel that decorated the large tree in the center of the room.

“SURPRISE!” everyone from the local shopkeepers to the townsfolk to the orphaned pets shouted at once.

At the head of them was Bernard, smiling as he saw his friend of many years erupt into tears of happiness.

Mistmas Cheer?
Posted: December 7, 2016

Glistening flurries rained down from the sky, bringing a little bit of early Mistmas magic with them as they collected in a light dusting on the ground. The little bit of unexpected snow did not deter from the Misticwide preparations for one of the biggest holidays of the year, and in fact only served to make the decorations stand out just a little bit more.

Toy shops held displays of plushies and model trains chugging along in circles around dollhouses and snowball snowmen. Bud the Bum put out only the best garbage for purchase and Makoto put “discount” stickers on some of the more expensive items to make them seem like more of a bargain. Lights were wrapped around every tree and bush and doorway and Misticans walked through the streets singing Mistmas carols. There was much laughter when a particularly clumsy sprite slipped on some snow-sodden grass and fell on his rear, only to begin laughing too. It seemed almost impossible for anyone to not feel jolly during this season.

And yet it wasn't.
~~~~~~~~~~
Charitee sat at the donation table and tried to put on a cheerful smile when a Mistican handed her a box and wordlessly walked away. She opened it and her smile almost instantly faded when she saw it was yet another box of unwanted Eat Me cookies. The pets in the pound never tired of cookies, but she had hoped to have gotten a little something different for a change.
A gourix in a hardhat approached her and tapped on her shoulder to get her attention. “Alright, Charitee. I'm finished with the repairs. I'll send you the bill in the mail.”
“Thanks, Lester,” she replied as he left.
Maybe the orphaned pets will be content knowing that the money went towards repairing the leaky ceiling so they could stay dry this Mistmas. Maybe they would understand that donations were at an all time low, and that was why they didn't have any gifts or decorations this year.
She smiled again when another prospective donor passed her by. She wondered how long she could keep this facade up.
Maury must be in charge of the USPS this holiday season, because the left behind charging cord for Zara's laptop missed the delivery date today! We hope to have her online and able to get vending up tomorrow!
December is a time of the year when spirits are high, and good will seems to be a bit more abundant. We are a community, but the recent attacks have made the entire staff team, and many members weary. We work on the site as a labor of love, and I must take this moment to remind everyone on site
"You are a guest in our Misticpet community, and we ask that you treat our other guests and staff with courtesy and respect. "
Further actions will be taken as needed at the discretion of the moderating and admin team.
Silent Night
Posted: December 1, 2016
The moon hung high in the sky, a beacon of light that gently washed over the world of Mistica as a peaceful silence descended upon the planet
Alone sat a young Mericai, entranced with the magnificent sight. So enthralled was he, that he never saw Pandoria as she approached him. She smiled gently and placed a small orb by his feet. Stealing away without a sound to disturb his meditations, Pandoria took a moment for herself before she left to close her eyes and drink in the power of the moonlight.
The mericai stirred himself from his reverie, blinking slowly at the glowing orb that stood by his feet.  Wonder turned to excitement and without a second thought, he utilized the power within.
Introducing the Night Mericai Grace and blessing. This grace is available as a gift with purchase of $50 or more in MP this December as well as through the Raffle as a 1st place gift, and there will be limited quantities available via Monty's Jade Emporium.
Last year, we put no limit on the Graces in December, and we will keep that tradition; so no one has to miss out during this time of giving.
~Mistic Team
P.S. Mistic will once again be selecting 2-3 children through a local group to gift with Mistmas presents this year. We will post a thread and show pictures of our cards/wishes along with their donated gifts! A small way to say thank you for being a part of this community and a way to involve ourselves in impactful gifting this holiday season!
