Revelry Wrap-Up
Posted: March 31, 2017

The festivities were dying down as Misticans and the undead bid their tearful farewells to each other. Benni and Harmony worked together with several other villagers to clean up the streets, and roofs, that were littered with hats, beads, and other revelry goodies people left behind. Harmony worried several beaded necklaces around in her fingers, looking over at Benni.

“Hey Benni? Thanks for helping me with my float. It really was a great idea.” Benni popped his head up from underneath a cart and the biggest smile in the world appeared on his face, positively beaming at the thanks. The words got tongue-tied in his mouth and he stuttered a reply, a blush becoming rather apparent.

Not too far from them stood Lyra and her cameraman Evan, both poised and primed as they went live.

“Welcome back Mistica! This is Lyra and we’re here to report that the apocalypse everyone has been dreading was not what it had appeared to be. The undead only wanted to party like they were when they were alive. Now that they’ve all gone back to their graves after their wonderful goodbyes, there's nothing to fear, not even the Rougarou!” Lyra posed for the camera with some beads when there was a faint hissing sound. Evan moved the camera to peer over her shoulder.

“Lyra, behind you.”

“Evan, shh, we’re still live.”

“No seriously. Look. Behind. You.” A cross expression flickered across her face as she crossed her arms and turned around.

“What am I lo-” Behind her, in the distance, a massive horde of znakes were slithering as fast as they could towards them.

“EYAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Now that the apocalyptic pets have gone to rest, it seems the znakes feel it’s safe for their annual migration! … relatively speaking, of course. Are you up for some znake whacking, or do you pity these poor creatures enough to save them instead?  Members of M.W.A.Z.* and M.A.W.Z.** (and even TOWWALATFBTTSRTZ***), get ready! The znakes are HERE!

Between The Two Sides Relating TZnakes

How it Works
Keep your eye out for the following button which will appear as you are playing around the site.
Znake Button
Once you click it, you will be faced with two choices. Think carefully! You can either save the znake, or whack it!
Save znakewhack znake
The choice is yours! Once you make your selection, you will receive a surprise znake.

There are a few new faces this year, although it appears they’re not sure about coming out of hiding yet. Maybe you have to help persuade them.

Watch out for all those znakes, and have fun!

------------

We done goofed. It was brought to our attention that the revelry balloon and boa items weren't circulating. That should be corrected now, and Revelry tossing will remain open for the time being.  The giveaway has also been updated to help correct this oversight. So keep an eye out as it updates frequently this weekend!

Won't Rain On This Parade!
Posted: March 27, 2017

Benni ran as fast as his tiny feet would carry him across the floor to a junk drawer full of discarded scrap paper and pencils. Harmony watched him with interest and confusion as he slapped them onto the floor and immediately began scribbling a design. “What are you doing?” she asked.

“I have a plan!” Benni said with confidence. “A plan for your float!”

It soon became apparent to Harmony exactly what Benni was doing and she laid on her belly on the floor beside him, offering advice, sometimes taking the pencil and adding her own design to the plan. Undead gathered around them with curiosity to see what they were doing, and when they completed it, Harmony and Benni proudly showed them the sketch.

“Do you think you can help us build this?” Harmony asked.

A lirionox reached out with skeletal claws and took the paper. “Sure!” he replied. “If we all just work together, we can have this completed in no time!”

The dead all over Mistica gathered supplies, from wood to paper mache to some sparkly things that no one knew the purpose of but were generally agreed to be pretty. The sounds of construction attracted curious Misticans who were hiding in their homes and one by one, heads poked out of windows and eyes peeked through slats of wood to observe what was going on.

With the help of the apocalyptic pets, the float was completed in no time! Sporting such decorations as giant foam skulls painted gold, green, and purple, tombstones draped in beads, and a huge banner which read, “The dead can party too!”, the float lead a parade of colorfully painted undead through the streets. One by one the interested onlookers opened their doors and cautiously crept out into the streets, smiles on their faces when they were spotted and greeted by friends and relatives long past, and slowly the parade turned into a full blown Revelry jamboree!

The celebrations spread across Mistica like a plague of mirth and happiness. Shops reopened. Children once again laughed in the streets. Down in the swamp, Benni’s crazy crawdad cousins were happily shaking the hand of the empty exoskeleton of their ghostly returned cousin, Billi, when they saw the Rougarou shudder and froze in place. Quickly Billi scurried over and readjusted his earmuffs firmly over his head and the Rougarou continued snoring, washing them all with a sigh of relief.

Revelry was not to be ruined this year after all!

A Party
Posted: March 24, 2017

The apocalyptic tarinooki smiled and beckoned to the occupants in the house, blood stained teeth gleaming in the light before she backed out of the house. Lifting her arm, she gestured to the open door.

“Won’t you come and join us?”

Harmony and Benni carefully exchanged worried glances before they crept towards the door. All though that they were thinking had been horrible and were about different takes on how the zombies hiding on either side of the door just waiting to pounce on them and tear them apart. However, it turned out to be the exact opposite as they bravely took a small step outside.

“What is---” Harmony gasped, staring as a group of apocalyptic pets passed by the house, chatting with each other while several more were decorating their faces and bodies with shiny gold, green and purple paint. They were laughing! And chatting! And not trying to go after anyone? An apocalyptic skillow swooped down from above, claws dropping several necklaces that landed on Harmony’s antler and one on Benni, which slipped to the ground.

“Join in the fun!” He called down before soaring away, heading towards a large basket full of various beads and knickknacks. The storm stignightus blinked before picking the necklaces off her antler and examined them carefully. It wasn’t their normal beads, that was for sure. It was crafted small skulls and bones and other various items, but were painted in the usual revelry colors. A small shudder jolted down her spine.

“So… Uh. You aren’t here to take over the world?” Benni chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his head with his claw. The grandma tarinooki bent over to look at him, then chuckled, holding out an invite.

“Take over the world? Oh no dearie. We’ve received this invite. If you wouldn’t mind, we would love to partake in this parade float.” Benni took the invite before studying it, then looked up again as another shadow fell over him, the paw of an apocalyptic haruba holding out a revelry themed graveyard cookie.

Another head, an inferno mericai popped out of the house, his eyes darting this way and that. With all the apocalyptic pets around, he felt like something was missing. “I wonder… did they have something to do with the znakes not showing up? I’m… not sure what is worse, znakes or apocalyptic pets?” Just at the mere mention of both, he shuttered and withdrew back into the safety of the house.

Who's There?
Posted: March 20, 2017

No one dared to move a muscle, as if by doing so, whatever that apocalyptic pet was would end up crashing in. The knock came again and the eye vanished, only for the face of an apocalyptic tarinooki to appear in its place.

Knock knock.

The third set of knocks came and the small child took a closer look at the face before she squealed and lunged out of her parents' arms. The cries of frantic parents and Benni and Harmony's shocked gasps were trumped by the turn of the locked door, the child throwing the door open with a spheal of laughter.

Images of the hoard of undead pets storming in flashed through their heads yet before they could even utter a scream and run for the back door, the girl smiled.

"Grandma!"

Wait, what?

The apocalyptic tarinooki smiled down at the child, exposed muscles gleaming wetly as she knelt down to gently pat the child's head. The sight of the older and rather dead tarinooki being so gentle was enough for the mother to almost pass out, but the sight of beautifully baked cookies on a colorful plate dragged them all back down into reality.

"Thank you for opening the door dear, such a sweet little grandchild I have. Son, will your family be going to the party later in the square? We're trying to gather as many people as we can." The grandmother's smile was very uneasy, bloodstained teeth sending a shiver down their spines.

"Party? What..." Benni trailed off, meeting Harmony's gaze with uncertainty. The pleasant conversation with the apocalyptic pet in front of them was strange, yet if the cookies and the numerous beads draped over her neck were any indication, was there a chance they had misinterpreted what was going on?

There was only one way to see. They had to go to this party.

Knock Knock, Knocking On The Door....
Posted: March 19, 2017

Revelry items flew through the air, but there was none of the usual cheer spreading throughout the city streets. Instead, anxiety reminiscent of the tense emotions surrounding the Somber attacks fueled Tossing this year around. Purple and gold were tinged with red as items bounced off of apocalyptic pets and through stains left in their footprints.

Occasionally, the wayward items smacked into hapless pizza deliverers who were definitely not being paid enough for their work, or onto grumpy Misticans who refused to let the zombie apocalypse stop their grocery shopping because sometimes that extra bag of popcorn just can’t wait until after the world ends.

------------

Benni was absolutely miserable, continually staring out through a gap in the boards covering the window of Harmony’s music store at streets empty of life but not beings. He could make out the shapes of half-finished parade floats, and a catapult full of revelry items positioned right outside of Bud’s Trash Hole, occasionally flinging glitz and glitter across the swamp. He was almost ready to go banging on the door of the Chamber of Evil, or seek out the Rougarou for some semblance of controlled chaos this Revelry month.

As for the actual holiday, he had already written it off.

Harmony glanced up from the float plans that were now covered in paint and sparkly stickers, courtesy of the small Tarinooki child, Chloe, taking up shelter in the store with her family. The plans were still unfinished and plan-less, but at least now they had character.

“Excuse me,” she sing-songed, gently tugging the float design out from under the little girl’s hands, getting a sticker on her wrist as a thanks. Harmony trotted over to Benni, aiming to distract him with the picture.

“Looking good,” he mumbled, without even glancing up.

“I think so too,” she ignored his ignorance, humming softly as she turned the paper this way and that, trying to remember which side was up. “I was thinking-“

Harmony explained plan after plan to Benni, asking for help and getting noncommittal mumbles in return. Chloe bounced over to them, grabbing at Benni’s claws and asking if he liked it, finally coercing a smile from him and getting him to look away from the window.

Just as it seemed as though Harmony’s friend was distracted, one sudden, solemn knock hit the door.

And then, after what seemed like a long, frozen eternity, another knock came, and another. Chloe’s parents ran forward to pull their daughter away, Harmony and Benni pushing her into her parents’ arms.

One blood-red eye filled the gap in the boards Benni had been staring through, and if anyone was going to scream, their voices froze in the throats.

"There's nothing wrong," Coppa called out, trying to convince anyone who would still listen. "Still, it's better to stay indoors today. It is still winter. The weather forecast is bad. Best to hunker down."

He sighed, exasperated, as another apocalyptic pet crept by him. "Nothing... Nothing to see at all..."

Perhaps Coppa's shades are tinted a bit too much. Look out for a new apocalyptic pet roaming around!

Let the Tossing Commence!
Posted: March 15, 2017

Hardware stores rapidly sold out of lumber as homes were boarded up all across Mistica. Children cheered their apocalyptic overlords when the invasion of undead closed schools across the globe. More traffic accidents occurred than the day there were flurries falling in Ravi-Sorin.

"This is Lyra reporting from Mistican News Channel 3, live at the sight of the apocalyptic invasion. All across the globe, the undead seem to be rising from their graves and converging on one spot for an unknown purpose. Evan, one of them is coming up behind you," Lyra reported as she held an apocalyptic mericai back with a chair

"Thanks," Evan replied. He sidestepped it and filmed it stumbling and falling on its face from the lack of coordination.

"Where have the undead come from? Why are they here? As of now, the answer is unknown," Lyra continued. "What was that?" she asked as she heard a whispering in her earpiece. "This just breaking, it seems that the undead are easily distracted by shiny things! Tossing a handful of revelry coins or beads appears to slow them down enough to make a getaway, so don't let the undead invasion stop you from enjoying your revelry tossing!"

She demonstrated by throwing a revelry toss ball over her shoulder. A pair of undead immediately shambled after to collect it.

It's time for revelry, everybody! Start your tossing!

And loads more!

Not to mention, these lovely new items!

"They're coming!"
Posted: March 13, 2017

A small dirt footpath lead from Kingdom Village down to a small glen populated by sprite farmers. It was seldom used, save for by the sprites themselves and the rare visitor. On this day however, it carried the frantic footsteps of a panicked sprite as he sprinted up the path into town.

“They’re coming!” he shouted. “They’re headed this way! Board up the windows! Herd all the children inside!”

A woman sweeping the stoop of her porch caught him and tried to calm him down. “What’s the matter? Who’s coming?”

“The apocalyptic pets!” the sprite shouted at the top of his tiny voice.

At the mention of the most feared pets of all, the village erupted into chaos. Officer Coppa stood in the middle of the plaza, calmly trying to wave down anyone who would listen. “There are no apocalyptic pets!” he insisted. “Nothing is wrong! Return to your houses!”

His voice went unheard in all the commotion. A lost phelocan chick ran circles around a pole looking for his mother. A housemaid armed herself with a serving tray and the sharpened end of a mop handle. Those who couldn’t get inside climbed the roofs of stables and huts.

Harmony watched the chaos in shock. What in Mistica was going on?

Suspicious Suspicions
Posted: March 10, 2017

It was no use. Harmony nearly threw the sketches of her float in the air. All of her carefully crafted ideas and how to execute them slowly drifted down to the floor. Her plans for the best float in the upcoming parade were useless. Maybe she should have submitted her design before she opened the parade up to applicants. Mistmas in March had been her first idea filled with both snow and spring flowers, then there was Whacking Day Extravaganza with live znakes to boot.

Both were taken.

Harmony let out a sad sigh, staring down forlornly at the blank pieces of paper as if an idea would suddenly be drawn before her very eyes. Outside the village the air was being filled with golds, greens, and purples, revelry beginning to hit early as beads and the like were both tossed and decorating the streets. Normally the sight would fill her heart with happiness but instead it only seemed to cause her grief. She only had a little time before she had to start on her float.

Wait, that was it! A walk around should get the creative juices flowing! Determined, she brushed herself off and set out on her walk, losing herself in the revelry spirit as a passerbyer handed her a set of bead necklaces. Accepting it with a polite thanks, she heard a commotion behind her.

"Have you seen anything suspicious around here?" Officer Coppa? A frown tugged at her lips as she approached him. His serious demeanor was strikingly out of place in the festivities.

"Officer? Is there something wrong?" Harmony questioned as he turned away from a confused kirui. His lengthy silence as he glanced around quickly was nerve-wracking.

"I'm not at liberty to say at the moment. Have you seen anything supicious lately?" Harmony shook her head, perplexed on what he could possibly mean. Upon her denial, he left without another word.

Strange. What did Officer Coppa mean by suspicious?

A Cold and Blustery Day
Posted: March 8, 2017

Today was a particularly cold and blustery March day. While the butterflies were clinging desperately to the stems of their flowers and skillows were finding themselves flying backwards, one staunch flier was determined to arrive at his intended destination on time. He had been late so many times in the past that it would hardly be surprising if he didn't make it now, but today was the day he decided his poor reputation would end! Or maybe tomorrow, Maury thought, as a beanbag chair blew loose from his bag and landed in the middle of a soccer game.

"I'll come back for it later," Maury shrugged. "I've got to get this letter delivered on time!"

Four wings proved beneficial for combating the winds and soon he found himself soaring overhead the Banshee Swamp and landing on a partially submerged, moss covered log with the number "729" and a tiny mailbox hammered to the front of it.

"Dis be the first time I ever see you on time, Feathers!" a chipper voice said over the sound of an accordion from a driftwood porch. "Should I be scared?"

Maury panted as he dug through his pockets, pulling a slightly crinkled envelope from deep within his bag. "This is important! It's an invitation!" the phelocan said excitedly before handing over the mail.

"An invitation?" Benni said just as excitedly. He knew what kind of invitation it must be. There was only one kind of invitation this time of year. He used his claws to cleanly slice the envelope open and pulled a letter embossed with the emblem of Heartsong Music.

"This letter cordially invites the recipient to the Mistican Revelry Parade/Jamboree! (Please contact Harmony at Heartsong Music for information if you wish to submit a float.)"

"HOO-WEE!" Benni shouted as his claws shot up into the air in celebration. "We're havin' ourselves a jamboree!" A strong gust blew through the swamp, ripping the letter from Benni's claws and whisking it away to parts unseen.

Benni stared gobsmacked at his empty claws. "Don't look at me," Maury shrugged. "I actually got it here on time. What happens to it beyond that is not my problem." He flapped his wings and flew away, leaving Benni to hurry inside and prepare for the event to come.

March Blessings!
Posted: March 1, 2017

The snow around the world, except in the coldest reaches, was dissipating rather fast. As Pandoria walked the trails, she could feel the promise of spring growth under her feet. She happened upon a WinterGala Skillow, who looked desperately cold in the cool night air.

"Why little skillow, why do you look so sad?" Pandoria inquired.

The skillow looked at Pandoria, the joy of her wintergala form nowhere to be found, "Oh Pandoria, I am so tired of the snow and cold. I wish I had some more feathers to keep me warm!"

Pandoria

Pandoria smiles, and reached out her hand, holding a new Grace for the occasion. With it, the skillow was transformed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pandoria's work was not done on this evening.  Her wanderings took her to the stormy seas in the South, to seek out the storm pets there that were frolicking in the rain with the Nimbus pets.
She noticed a jinx, off to the side, alone and uninvolved with the antics of the other storm pets.  She gracefully sat next to the low energy figure.
"Why are you not out, enjoying the storms my dear Jinx? You are so dim this evening!" She spoke quietly, awaiting his answer.
"My lights are dim, and I don't carry enough charge to enjoy the fun Pandoria. Could you help me?" The jinx's entreaty was full of sincere hope.
"I can, and I will jinx. Stand up and take this Grace."
The jinx marveled at his new form; he wouldn't be teased about being under powered anymore!
Welcome to the Supercharged Jinx, and the Strix Skillow Blessings.
Meaning of the Sombers
Posted: March 1, 2017
Misticans ran this way and that, nets filled with both the remaining Sombers and the sudden influx of lovebugs and cooties. The Hug Bug watched the scene from the top of a building. Despite being pestered by his cousins, he noticed several villagers swatted them away and sprayed them with scowls. His soft smile faded away as he crept closer. No matter how hard they tried, the little critters couldn’t get close enough to spread their love. An old Yehxil was one of them.
Upon seeing the scowls on their face, as well as various expressions of sadness, anger, and spite, the Hug Bug felt a lightbulb go off. Looking around, there were sightings of Sombers near such individuals. Suddenly the normally cheerful holiday gained a, well, somber tone if his theory on how those strange creatures really came into play.
“Of course… Infestation may be about love, yet… These people found themselves broken by it… You can’t have happiness without its equivalent.” Hug Bug’s antennas sagged low. Try as they might, no Mistican can truly rid the world of Sombers, nor could Hug Bug truly beat back Altered. It was a sad truth he will have to come to accept. Heartbreak could really change a person and no amount of lovebites could ever truly change someone.
“Keep those nets handy Mistica, as he lovebug and cooties may be lingering around a while after, and those Sombers still seem to be hiding around. Hopefully this will be the last time in a long time where Mistica deals with unwanted guests 'ruining' a Mistican holiday. This is Lyra from Mistic News Channel 3 signing off.” Breathing a sigh of relief, Lyra relaxes as her cameraman lowers the camera, thankfully turning it off for once.
A cough next to her nearly startled her out of her fur, realizing that her one and only boss stood next to her. He looked from her to Evan, then around to the town where people were running around with nets or sprays. She nervously twirled a piece of her mane around one claw, smiling up at him.
“Well, looks like you can cover a great story Lyra. You wanted a big one? The znake migration is coming and you’ll be the head of it! Keep it up Lyra.” Lyra kept smiling as if she was on camera, waiting until he vanished into the crowd before she turned to Evan, her lips trembling.
“Why Znakes?” she cried out.
