Chandler Winning Entry

The sea bows to no man, she grows and she thrives
She plays with pretense; she is not what she seems
Aye, she cradles the sailors, their ships and their lives
But she kills without merit, and muffles their screams

I know the voice of the sea- her crash and her roar
Her cries echo the length of the world
I’ve watched her shriek, heard the words that she hurled
At the men who dare claim it is she they adore
After abandoning her for a soft life on the shore

The sound of her pain is a bane to my ears
She rises and dips with each turn of the moon
A shrieking giant, her eyes filled with tears
Reaching, ever reaching, a hollower tune
