Top 10 Lanturnacht Treats
Written By Metaphor

It’s that time of year again—young Misticans running about the neighborhood donning their Stignightus Holmes masks, ghostly decorations hanging from just about every eave and rosebush, and perhaps best of all…candy! And lots of it! In this list, I have compiled ten of Mistica’s favorite Lanturnacht treats. Whether you are a younger eager for a night of scares and sweets or a big kid who just wants to wax nostalgic, this list is sure to get your sweet tooth aching for a ghoulish sugar rush.

1. Eyeballs

Okay, so perhaps these treats aren’t exactly the epitome of a cavity-inducing snack, but they sure are captivating to look at, right? The fun part is that they stare right back at you! Chewy at their core, these creepy Lanturnacht treats provide a gross but strangely tasty experience for all of Mistica’s trick-or-treaters.

2. Cat Candies

We’re not quite sure what these little gems of sugar are made out of other than, well, sugar. But do we really want to know? Will what we don’t know hurt us? All we know is that every trick-or-treater looks forward to finding this adorable black cat-adorned wrapper in their pumpkin or old pillowcase. And who can forget those tantalizing flavors, especially the signature spooky one. What is spooky supposed to taste like anyway?

3. Bloody Bones Candy

Relax, it’s just cherry sauce! It says so right in the ingredients list. See? See?

4. Cat Licorice

Why is it that felines represent some of Mistica’s most irresistible Laturnacht treats? Perhaps these licorice candies were hard to appreciate as kids, but they sure made moms happy when we went home to scour our loot. And now even as big kids, some of us who are just too cool for free candy, we just can’t resist licorice in fun shapes, even in its bitter black form.

5. Lollypops

Lollypops, the perfect emblem of being an innocent trick-or-treater on the night of Lanturnacht. Whether they’re shaped like witches’ hats, spiders’ webs, or just plain colorful swirls, these candies have kids swapping out their taffies and lesser stickless hard candies all night long.

6. Assorted Pommekins Treats

Pommekins are a beloved symbol of Lanturnacht fun. Sugary treats in the shape of these beloved fruits are even better! It seems every trick-or-treater finishes the night with at least a dozen or so Pommekin-inspired goodies in their loot bags, be them chocolate morsels, gummies, or candy corn.

7. Taffy

So what if it gets stuck to our teeth and makes our dentists lament? It is delicious, sticky, messy, and loaded with sugar and artificial color. What’s not to love?

8. Finger Candies
After years of trick-or-treating, very few of us are quite sure what these colorful treats are supposed to be. Lollypops? They’re not hard enough. Taffy? Definitely not soft enough. Whatever they are, they are delicious and keep us licking our sticky fingers several minutes after wolfing them down.

9. Chocolate Bat Wings

Ah, the gold of all Lanturnacht goodies—chocolate! These bat wings are detailed, adorable, and delicious. What more needs to be said?

10. Doughnuts

So your parents tell you not to take anything that isn’t securely wrapped from strangers? Certainly doughnuts are an exception to the rule, especially the decadent ones prepared spookily and creatively just for Lanturnacht. And besides, do you really think your folks throw them away after confiscating them for safety reasons? Um…
