Character Spotlight: Raimia
Written By gemajgall

Chief Raimia is the youngest to lead the gurahdia of Metropolis Quarry to date. She took the position when the prior chief retired in order to fly Mistica and study foreign magics. Very few gurahdia or gargoyles objected to her promotion either--her magic is just that powerful that she ascended uncontested.

Most who look at her halla can tell her magical talents. The thin lines that adorn her wrists and ankles denote her as a quick, analytical thinker while all the turning corners show her as reliable and stalwart. Together they paint her as one with great magical reserves and a talent for quick attacks and long defense.

Coupled with this is her deep love of knowledge--that even some other gurahdia consider extreme. As a youth, her attention was drawn to the lore of the Lost Door that lead to a forgotten repository of ancient gurahdia knowledge. She believed this was far more than a mere myth and set out to uncover the truth. She surveyed the lay of the quarry, spent countless hours interviewing Chief Blackrock, and hunted down scrolls from across Mistica to find the slightest clue to her search.

Days turned into weeks and then years. But Raimia never gave up. Finally, she and Blackrock determined the most likely place for the repository to be and even sent word to a team of archeaologists to uncover it. Their combined efforts paid off; the repository was found and opened to the world.

Raimia herself now spends days inside, pouring over artifacts of her people and parchments from the ancient world. Her mind contains an almost cohesive chronology of Mistica's history, and there's precious little about her own tribe that she doesn't know. Rumor has it that Aibrean has been trying to convince her to get into writing so that all of this can be recorded in a single source.

However, Raimia's talents don't merely lie in the realm of knowledge. She has successfully lead her people in defending their home from invaders including hungry belragothes and feral braenon. Even against much greater numbers, her gurahdia have come out victorious. They attribute it all to Raimia's quick thinking and effective strategies. Her plans include confronting all intruders by using the terrain and skies to their advantage. She mixes the battlions of gurahdia so their magic can be amplified. And should things change on the battlefield, Raimia adapts within moments.

Even more importantly for her people and their allies in the gargoyles, Raimia never stoops to "underhand" strategies. She refuses to ambush or use guerilla warfare; she will always confront her opponents directly. This is part of her goodness--and it has earned her the respect of everyone in the quarry.

On that same side of the coin, Raimia cannot abide sloth and willful ignorance. She sees sloth as not only being ineffective at home but also hindering the community and cannot even comprehend why someone would abhor education. Both are "bad" and offend her innate sense of goodness.

In the near future, Chief Raimia wants to continue to make the resources of the repository available to all whole come to the Metropolis Quarry by translating the ancient scrolls and telling their tales. She also mentioned that she'd like Perryn to help solidify their defenses since the imps were able to breech them--but that information is currently confidential. She also wants to continue to strengthen her clan's ties with their gargoyle allies and possibly seek new friends farther away. "We've been cooped up on our mountain just a bit too long. It's time to share the good we have with everyone."
