Slushie Quest, Part 5
Written By Fallout

The sun shown brightly overhead, but it didn't seem to provide much warmth in the snowy, mountainous landscape. It almost felt as though the sun were somehow making things even colder. Sebastian pulled the collar of his faux fur trimmed jacket up over his neck and Powderpuff's layered fur was puffed up to keep out the wind that occasionally blew powdered snow in their direction. The air was thin as well as cold, but fortunately Powderpuff was naturally equipped for both. Sebastian, on the other hand, had to pace himself as they climbed.

“How much further do you think it is, Powderpuff?” Sebastian asked. Powderpuff chirped in indecision and turned his head to look down the path they had just climbed.

It was a long way down. One little slip and the poof would be a giant snowball roaring towards the little village at the base of the mountain with an emperon chasing after him. That would be one day to get back down, he guessed. Luckily he wasn't afraid of heights.

“The map says to look out for a rock shaped like a popsicle with a bite taken out of it, so keep an eye out.”

The pair examined every oddly shaped rock they passed in case one of them might be shaped like the popsicle in question. With their eyes on the rocks, they didn't pay much attention to the ground in their path until it was too late. Sebastian and Powderpuff felt themselves plummeting, plummeting into a hole down below. Fortunately there was a lot of soft snow and branches to break their fall below.

“Squeak squeak?” Powderpuff said in a daze.

“I don't know...it appears to be some sort of pit trap?” Sebastian replied.

They were both brushing off the snow and looking for a way out when a shadow loomed over the mouth of the trap they had fallen into. “That was almost too easy,” someone chuckled.

The pair looked up at the strange obsideon dressed in white ninja garb. “Let me guess, you must be The Shadow?” Sebastian asked. “Why do they call you 'The Shadow' when you're wearing white?”

“Why does everyone ask that?!” The Shadow replied. “Look, we're on a snowy mountain. Do you know how much black sticks out against the snow?!”

“That's true. My jacket does stick out a lot against the snow,” Sebastian nodded.

The sinister obsideon glared at them from above. “Enough about me. Hand over the map to the Golden Slushie or I'll bury you both alive!”

“And if we do, what then?” Sebastian demanded angrily.

“I'll throw you a rope and give you a chance to climb out.”

Sebastian and his poof companion looked at each other. They didn't really seem to have much of a choice in the matter. Reluctantly Sebastian fished the crinkled map out of his pocket and held it overhead. “Fine...” The Shadow dropped to his stomach and reached into the hole, snatching the map out of his flipper. “Now toss us the rope!”

“What rope? I never said I had a rope,” The Shadow replied with an insidious smile.

“You lied to us!” Sebastian said angrily.

“Yeah. I guess I did,” The Shadow replied. “Well I must go. I have a slushie to find.”

Sebastian and Powderpuff watched with disbelief as he stepped back from the hole. They listened to the sounds of his footsteps crunching in the snow as he walked away until he was too far to hear.

“What now?” Sebastian asked Powderpuff with a hint of despair.

How will our heroes get out of this this time? Will some shyres come rescue them once more? How does one dig a hole in a mountain anyway? Tune in next time on Slushie Quest!
