Pandoria's Favor, Part 1
Written By Fay

Rocks of red and golden hues spread out before Pandoria, though she could barely make any of it out because of the dark. She looked up and saw not a blazing sun, but a dying, flickering orange star that barely gave any light at all. Blackness surrounded it, growing darker and larger by the moment.

“I don’t understand how he became so powerful,” Rae’s voice was a hoarse whisper. The young goddess was sweating and shaking like she had a fever, but her paw was freezing to the touch.

Pandoria shook her head. She had no explanation for Seht’s sudden ability to wipe out the sun. He was no older or stronger than Rae, so why had he been able to bring her almost to death so easily? Here at the quarry, Pandoria had hoped such a high place would not only help Rae but attract Seht so she could sort him out. The sun wasn’t completely dead; his power shouldn’t quite match hers just yet…then again, he shouldn’t have been able to do any of this in the first place.

She’d been half right. Rae still looked one step away from a grave, but below her, Pandoria saw a deep black hole suddenly open up mid-air and Seht slithered out. His fangs glinted in the dying light in a malicious grin. He looked up, saw the two goddesses, and laughed.

“I have a sssecret, Pandoria,” he taunted as he made his way up the quarry mountain.

Pandoria stared him down but felt her heart drop. Power emanated from his entire body; she could actually feel it, like a physical thing trying to push her down to the rocks below. “What have you done, Seht?” She demanded, refusing to let fear color her voice.

Another laugh was her only answer. Pandoria looked down and saw the creatures she had so lovingly created and watched over for years, although her world was still so young. Lysadors had gathered opposite the side of the mountain that Seht was crawling up, peering at the goddesses and clearly expecting something to happen.

Pandoria raised her staff and without warning, a great silvery white bolt smashed towards Seht; rocks exploded and dirt plumed up all around, hiding him, but Pandoria didn’t wait; another crack and the god was hit again.

But the sun didn’t shine any brighter. As the dust settled, Seht shook some rocks from his hood and kept on, undaunted.

Rae finally fell to her knees, one paw on her heart. “He has tapped into something we know nothing about. We can’t beat him, Pandoria.”

“We can, but we would die doing it,” Pandoria said plainly. It would require every last ounce of Rae’s remaining strength and Pandoria’s power, right down to their life force, but it would expel Seht and keep Mistica safe at least. What her world would do without a guardian was not something Pandoria wanted to think about, but it had to be better than letting Seht take over now.

Rae just nodded. She was dying anyway.

The gem on Pandoria’s staff began to glow so brightly the goddesses had to look away. Seht growled his protests, but they ignored him, and then their bodies began to shine. Such heat did their powers create that the rocks the goddesses stood on began to melt and the air around them flickered.

They were dying, but Mistica would live.

Quite a cliffhanger, though it is missing the "..." to suggest it is to be continued.
