Character Spotlight: Erika
Written By gemajgall

Everyone knows Erika; she's been a resident of Kingdom Village ever since she was a small child. Her bakery is well-loved across the entire valley region. Knowing all this, it's surprising how few have actually stopped and talked with her about her career and passions.

“I know many people think it's a bit odd that a tarinooki like me operates a bakery instead of an art gallery or interior decorating service,” remarks Erika. “But they don't see that my pastries are works of art.”

Customized cakes and cupcakes are Erika's best sellers. She carefully crafts each item to resemble Misticpets, legendaries, and even other food items. The people of Mistic Kingdom still talk about the elaborate wedding cake she made for Princess Alana and Joel's wedding. It was decorated like a garden, complete with a fruit waterfall and delicate flowers crafted by paw out of icing.

“It'd be a lot easier if frosting came out of my tail,” Erika often jokes.

Her desserts aren't only visually stunning; they're also moist, rich, and decadent. Erika explains that she's collected recipes from all across Mistica—the older, the better. She compiles them in her bakery, testing out ingredients to make the best combinations possible.

“I consider myself a type of scientist on top of an artist,” Erika claims. “I always wonder what will make this better. Like how can I add strawberries without the juice making the cake soggy? Or do chocolate cookies bake better if the batter has been cooled slightly? I'll admit, not everything turns out good. But I'm proud of the items I sell every day. They're just better as a result of trial and error and experience.”

However, Erika's work doesn't end there. In addition to waking up early and baking everything fresh each day, she does party deliveries on the weekend and manages all her own advertising and finances. Fortunately, most Misticans know her through reputation and word of mouth—very few have ever had anything to complain about her baked goods.

“Yeah, on the weekends I'll take cakes to the local parties myself. And before I go to sleep every night, I balance my budget to make sure I have enough for ingredients for the next day. I'd like to think of myself as a jack of all trades.”

When asked if there's any dessert she'd specially recommend, Erika pointed out her apple pie. “You just can't go wrong with a good apple pie. And talk to Sebastion about making it a la mode.”
