This Month in Mistica: September '12
Written By Caustic

This Month in Mistica is a quick guide to everything that’s happened on site in the past month. Whether you’re new and want a better idea of what goes on here, an older user who’s returning, or simply too lazy to read the news, this article has all -- okay, most -- of the information you need!

September had us all seeing blue, with the release of the sapphire Kohal and a bunch of new pirate themed vending items on the 1st. Our first Spotlight winners were also announced.

On the 4th, the Zokuleon finally succumbed to the powers of the Voodoo Pandoria Box.

The next day the Traveler revealed he hadn’t been totally wasting his time sitting under that tree. You can now get a variety of paper cranes as extra rewards for completing his quests! The writing team also opened up applications.

A special pal, the Storick, was released on the 6th. Considering his precious cargo, let’s hope he’s more competent than Maury!  Zaffy also got a frighteningly lovely new Foxgriff pal in honor of a certain staff member’s birthday, and Achyrli had the art from the latest contest winners in stock.

Things got interesting the very next day. King Blithe was seen talking to a stranger, and several new items were seen in Makoto’s shop – at suspiciously high prices!

Maury was put to work on the 8th delivering a message from King Blithe asking Misticans for help. Unfortunately, it got torn to pieces, and we were sent on a hunt to put them together! Finding all five meant seeing King Blithe’s message and getting a new pal.

Selich, the stranger, introduced himself the next day. He told of problems in Sango Reef, criminals having taken it over, and implored the surface dwellers of Mistica to help them. Of course, he looked a bit odd; no one knew what he was exactly, and it was then that the new Risylki species was discovered! Selich said that Maury was delivering (i.e. dropping on people’s heads) items that would let everyone access Sango Reef, and if taken to King Blithe, they would all combine to form a Scuba Set.

On the 10th while we waited for flippers, oxygen tanks, scuba suits and masks to drop from the sky, we celebrated RuthieRox’s birthday! A dress, choker and cupcake that would make the likes of Jasper flinch were released, and everyone who signed her card got entered to win a 7 Day Champion Dust. The same day Dr. Erlenmeyer came forward with some interesting facts about Risylkis.

Two days later the adorable Baby Risylki showed its fuzzy face! Kite and shiver were also welcomed onto the writing team.

On the 13th Makoto revealed two more exotic reef-themed items, both at ridiculous prices despite Officer Coppa’s suspicions.

The next day the Storm Phelocan lit up Mistica’s skies!

On the 15th Officer Coppa decided everyone had had long enough to put together their scuba set and so sent teams of divers into Sango Reef. What they found was an eerily quiet place with all the shops closed, save for the Sea Witch, whose magic was the only reason she was being left alone.

Officer Coppa dove into the reef himself two days later to talk to the Sea Witch. She told him someone named Monty was the man behind all the closed shops; he held Sango Reef in fear, demanding protection money that no one could pay and sending his henchmen out as enforcers. Meanwhile, the crafty Makoto began stocking even more expensive items!

The next day the Oceanic Panju was released! Old items also made an appearance in the Vending Machine alongside the new, and some of the site rules were updated per member suggestions.

On the 19th, black sails showed up on the horizon, and that could only mean Captain Jack Skillow was here! Pinatas and pirate items were released.

Mysteriously, Monty let up his hold on the Fishmonger’s shop the very next day. The Sea Witch also received a few gifts from Captain Jack to sell in her shop.

But the good Captain wasn’t here long before his cargo was all stolen! He headed for Sango Reef, suspecting Monty and his goons. Meanwhile the Collector had been given a task from Monty: collect certain pirate-themed items and in exchange, he gave Misticans a little pal.

On the 22nd everyone was readying for a fight. The Black Pyre was sailing for the reef, but Monty was sure of his victory. He shouted a challenge to Misticans on the surface. In happier news, we welcomed Stacy to the art team, and the Credit Shop got a new hatchipal and several older pirate items in stock.

The next day, the fight began! Captain Jack Skillow anchored the Black Pyre and sent his crew down in waves to attack. Misticans took up their weapons and gathered on the beach, organized by Officer Coppa. Under the gentle waves of Sango Reef, Monty and his men waited, ready.

The battle began on the 24th (the Sea Witch decided that day was appropriate to release a new line of rubber Risylki toys) and raged until the 26th, when Monty was soundly defeated!

With Monty and his henchmen gone, Anemone was able to open up her clothing shop on the 27th.

The next day, Selich showed up to hand out trophies and rewards to those who’d fought for Sango Reef.

On the 29th, a bunch of new items were released to all three shops in the reef.

We kicked the criminals out of the reef, and it took everyone – even Captain Jack Skillow and his crew joined in! Of course, now that September’s gone, Lanturnaucht is upon us, and Jasper probably has some spooky things in store…
