Houses Through the Ages

Mistica has a proud heritage. From the shores of Bamboo Beach Resort to the sands just a click away from the Rordon Village, many cultures have cometogether, each sporting its own styles. Looking at today's homes you might ask yourself, "What did houses look like a hundred years ago?"

Well, in some realms the houses didn`t look that much different than they do right now.

The Jumboyo Village still sports the same grass and reed huts as it did a century ago. There is speculation, however, that they use these materials because grass and reeds are easily obtained. The frequent fires here require the villagers to rebuild at least three times a year. Jumboyo pets are notorious for mischief. Villagers often wake up to find their homes disassembled or in flames, and snickering from the nearby bushes leaves no doubt as to who the culprits are. Anyone with the urge to relocate the Jumboyo Village is strongly urged to carry Home Owners Insurance (if indeed anyone will accept you!).

In Dire Morana you see a wasteland, seemingly uninhabited. It has been this way as far back as anyone can remember -- or has it? It is this writer`s belief that below ground there is a vast network of caves that the local wildlife utilizes as permanent shelter (possibly something more sinister lives down there, but all expeditions have, so far, ended in tragedy). However, before this can be confirmed, an investigation must take place -- one where someone actually makes it back.

Against the magnificent back drop of an active volcano, the Inferno Realm has learned to adapt to natural disasters. Each structure is built with retractable handles on each corner. At first they seemed silly, but the purpose of these handles became clear during field research
for this article. The volcano erupted late one night. Rather than the panic and mayhem you would expect, hulking Mandorans (hired for this purpose) used the handles to move the buildings out of the path of oncoming lava, which was partially contained by special ruts made to divert it to a more convenient area. How clever!

Ravi-Sorin is another culture that has evolved very little over the years. When interviewing a noble looking pair of Anyai, they stated (in perfect tandem,) "Why change purrrfection?" Why indeed? By examining ancient scrolls, I was able to determine that (with the exception of solar panels) this may be true! With their ability to see the future, one must wonder, do they know something we do not?

Banshee swamp is one of the few locations that structural evolution has taken place. When the little village first started, Bud the Bum made excellent profit selling used cardboard boxes as shelter. The introduction of tar paper, cement and 2x4's brought his lucrative business to an end (this may have been when "the Bum" was added to his name). Per observation, descendants of Jumboyo may have migrated here. Their influence can be seen in the grass thatching on most of the structures.
