Origin of Daydreams
Written By Caustic

Pleasant things, daydreams. They’re a time to lose yourself in your own fantasies and let your imagination run wild. Dreams break the confines of the mind to journey to a place of pure and perfect beauty. Calm and peace can be found in the daydream, and vivid colors that dazzle and please the eye to no end. It’s a mystery to many how such a perfect state of bliss can exist at all, and they wonder how it began.

Beauty begets beauty, and this was no different. Aislin, the fair sprite princess, was known for her wit and pleasant nature, but very few saw her quieter side. She often fled to her own private gardens for solitude and peace away from her subjects; however much she loved them, privacy was something she coveted.

It was during one of these times that her mind began to wander. The day, she thought, was absolutely perfect, with a bright sun shining high in the sky, only a few wisps of white clouds to be seen, and a light breeze playing among the brilliant wildflowers and tree branches.

Her mind began to sink into itself. Petals danced on the wind before her eyes, spiraling gently to the soft, grassy ground, and the princess’s gaze became unfocused, a lazy smile spreading across her face.

What she saw fully entranced her. The grass beneath her feet took on an impossibly vibrant shade of perfect green, the sky a clear blue, unbroken by so much as a breath of a cloud. Aislin could literally see the breezy currents, for they carried in them vibrant colors, prismatic specks swirling and spiraling, catching the sun and reflecting hundreds of hues all around. The ground was carpeted with flowers in every shade imaginable, from the palest white to deepest blue. Trees stood sparsely around her, their leaves shining gold; vines encircled them gently, bearing roses the size of her two hands together.

It was evening before Aislin’s twin brother Arman came to get the princess. He told her how long she had been just sitting there, and she was startled, but not afraid. It had been such a wonderful thing, she thought, so very peaceful, beautiful…

So every day Aislin went to her gardens and sat amongst the flowers and trees, and seven times in all did she daydream so vividly. On the seventh day when Arman came to fetch her as always, she staggered, an enraptured look on her face, eyes still glazed. Her mind was running wild with its own fantasies, and the princess couldn’t handle it! With a shout that was half joyous, half pain, Aislin suddenly dropped to her knees, panting, but then smiled, looking normal again.

After that the princess rarely daydreamed so strongly, but it seemed her own fantasies had manifested themselves all around her. One day she saw a tanoo wander into her garden; to her surprise, it wasn’t the normal brown and black, but bearing all colors of the rainbow, and bright wings on its back! She saw the same with a talula swimming lazily in a pond, and soon her garden was bursting with these beautiful creatures.

All over Mistica, unbeknownst to the princess, others were daydreaming as wildly as she had. Soon the pets themselves began to take on the lovely colors and delicate wings of their imaginations, for even Pandoria’s Boxes had soaked in the dreams.
