Scathach Winning Entry

The long blue tail swished impatiently, before curling itself around the paws of it's owner, a zodiac braenon. It wouldn't be long now. Each tick of the clock seemed to take an eternity, while somehow there still wasn't enough time to get ready. So now, Trance (for that was her name) was just sitting here, trying to tidy up her unruly fur, before she had to meet her new classmates.

She hated meeting new people. Hated school. Hated everything about this. But what could one braenon do about a whole system? Nothing.

Trance shook her head, sending lights flashing every which where. She really didn't like the way everybody looked down on her, and told her what to do. Made her feel like a servant, or some sort of creature underneath everybody. One that they could just stomp all over, and not give two pommes about. The braenon glared at her paws, angry just at the thought of it.

Tick...
Tock...
Tick...
Tock...

The clock seemed to blend into her thoughts, as her sleepy mind hazily wandered through those little paths that one tends to when having nothing else to do.

Tick...
Tock...
Goes the clock...
And now what shall we play?
Tick...
Tock...
Goes the clock...
Now summer's gone away...

Hmmm... I love Doctor Who... he seems to understand me so well...

Trance mumbled a few more verses to herself, even as a door slammed shut behind her. She looked up, eyes widened in shock. She was already in the classroom!

Now how did that happen?

She didn't have much time to ponder this, as the teacher, a daydream haruba, quickly hurried her to her seat next to a sad looking phantom stiggy. The stiggy turns around, and gives her a melancholic smile, before saying softly, "I'm The Pitiful Living Ones. Or just Pity if you please."

The braenon wasn't quite sure how to reply to this, since she rarely gave out her full name. Especially not at first encounter. But since her classmate had given his, she should probably give hers too. Maybe this was some sort of courtesy thing at school or something. "I'm Entranced by the Soul. But I prefer Trance." She replied, staring intently at her desk.

"Oh, th-" Pity started to say something, before a loud roar filled the room. Trance did a little jump into the air, and landed with a thud back onto her seat, before looking around to find the source of the annoying disturbance. A few quick glances revealed that it was coming from the way back of the classroom. Specifically, a certain apocalyptic jinx.

She glared at the hunched over figure for a few moments, trying to decide whether to ignore him, or to beat the living Seth out of him. But the braenon was spared from this decision, by the sound of screams. Once over the momentary relief, she was horrified by the pure bloodthirstiness that you could almost feel oozing out of the piercing sounds. It was even worse than before.

Trance looked around frantically, searching for the source of the sound. Finally, she realized that it was coming from a pair of ahbruis twins. They were giggling and trying to act just as confused as everybody else, but she could see the look of concentration on their faces as they took turns to make sure the sound didn't break. The braenon was furious. She stood up, and stalked towards the two, glaring angrily. Just before she reached them though, a cloud of sparks and mist filled her vision.

She shook her head angrily, and looked up again, even angrier before. But the noise had stopped. And the ahbruis twins had disappeared. In their place were two baby anyas, staring at her in confusion.

W-what?

Trance turned around to look back at her seat, and perhaps seek a reassuring glance from Pity amongst the furious glares of the other students. But to her surprise, the melancholy stiggy was gone, replaced by an annoyed looking tarinooki.

Turning a scarlet red now, the braenon tossed a few more panicked glances around the room, before speeding out as fast as she could.
