Mnemosyne Winning Entry

#4- The wind threw the branches of nearby trees around, distorting their appearance into something frightful. The lantern attached to the small run-down shack swung back and forth as well, casting an eerie light over the trick-or-treaters stationed before the shack's door. Buckets, pails and bags in hand, the youngsters huddled together.
"Y-you sure t-t-this is the house?" One whispered, a young Haruba. This was his first trick-or-treating, and he was frankly quite terrified. Even some of the older kids seemed hesitant about knocking on the door before them.
"M-maybe we should come back some other time... like when the sun's out," Another, a young Zisscor suggested, hood flattened into itself; a show of just how afraid he truly was.
The leader of the small group, a "fearless" young Gourix, gulped and forced a grin. "D-don't be stupid! If we come back tomorrow Lantunacht will be over! W-we're getting our candy tonight, and that's the end of it!"
But even as he said that, the wind seemed to pick up speed, and the sound of faint howling in the background could be heard. The kids shivered and pressed closer.
"T-then again... hehe, maybe t-tomorrow ain't such a bad idea..."
A twig snapped behind them, and that did it; the group shrieked and ran, candy flung here and there with no one bothering to collect it as they dashed for the safety of home.
Had they stayed behind, the foursome would have realized that it was only a young obsideon with an over-sized skull on his head and a large bag of candy being dragged behind him. At the sight of his friends running away in fear, the youngster shrugged in confusion. "Wonder what's eating them?" Moving up to the door, he knocked and prepared to collect his candy.
