Character Spotlight: Ken Kratork
Written By gemajgall

Q: Mr. Kratork, how did you decide to become an action reporter?
A: Please, just call me Ken. It started during my school years. I always had a knack for telling stories. In fact, my friends were always asking me for one—they said they liked my voice, they couldn't get enough. Shortly after that, we all had to do some volunteer work, and my best friends put me up to being the MC at our football game. It turned out to be a ton of fun, and I loved seeing everyone sitting at the edges of their seats, waiting for the next play, waiting for my next words. That's when I knew I what I wanted to do.

Q: How did you ever land such a prominent position with Mistican Action News?
A: Because I'm the best, of course! MAN took one look at my college accomplishments and hired me on the spot. After all, I had spent my free time announcing games and club events. I even got an internship before I graduated under some of the bigwigs here at MAN. Barely a couple of months passed, and they gave me my first piece about SPNHM. Then the offers just kept coming.

Q: What's a day like on the job?
A: Most Misticans don't realize that most of the job is done in the office. Every reporter spends time researching a scene before charging in. And afterward, we spend a lot of time cross referencing facts, checking out sources' credentials, and verifying the backstory of the people involved. MAN wants to provide the most accurate news to Mistica, and we're not allowed to report sloppily. Not that I would be, of course, I'm too good for that. Once we get on the scene, we interview everyone we can—a lot of that footage doesn't make the final cut. After that, we have to work like detectives a little bit by piecing together all the facts to get the big picture.

Q: You've traveled many places over your career. Do any stand out to you?
A: That's a tough one. Metropolis Quarry has its charms, but the environment can be harsh. Then there's the Bamboo Beach Resort—it's absolutely lovely. The sands are warm, and the sunsets are breath-taking. But it can be very crowded, and I find that frustrating. I really can't relax when everyone is demanding my autograph, you know. I suppose, though, if I had to pick, I'd choose Kelpie River. It's got a tranquility that can't be found anywhere else, and the kelpies are friendly and informative. It's not a tourist trap, so it has an authentic feel. The weather is also very comfortable there almost all year around, so it doesn't damage my scales. This face is the face of MAN, after all, and I can't be too careful with it.

Q: Do you have a favorite story that you've covered?
A: I really couldn't pick a favorite story, but I always enjoy covering the events of the imps and sprites conflicts. There's never a dull moment when those two go at it, and you have to keep on your toes for both. Emotions run high, and tensions run deep. You never know what's going to happen next. And those are key elements of a good story. However, if I had it my way, I'd do a story about all my contributions to MAN. I'm sure that our viewers would love a story about me.

Q: What was the most difficult story you ever had to cover?
A: Anything dealing with Queen Boreal! I really don't like the ice and cold, so tracking down her exploits every December can be a real pain in the tail. It was particularly bad this past year when all of Mistica was covered in ice. I couldn't even hit Ravi Sorin without someone throwing snowballs. Plus, she can bring a real damper on the holiday season. You know what I mean? For once, I'd like to kick back and enjoy the office party with everyone. But it never fails. We always receive word that we have to cover Queen Boreal before the first cup of cocoa can be served. Maybe I should ask Meriklaus for a good pair of earmuffs and a tail warmer next year...

Q: We're running out of time, so we'll also one final question. Do you ever find your job boring?
A: Certainly not! Most days I look forward to going in—and it's never the same day twice. That's good because I don't handle monotony well. But working for MAN, I get to travel Mistica and meet legendaries and Misticpets from across the globe. I get to be a part of the action, watching world-changing events unfold around me. I get to try food from different cultures and celebrate holidays in different towns. And at the end of the day, I still get to return home and set down roots. I wouldn't change a thing.
