How to Care for a Lanturat
Written By Fay

Despite their destructive introduction, lanturats have wiggled their furry little selves into the hearts and homes of Misticans worldwide. Their docile, playful nature and furry cuteness seems to have made everyone forget how sharp their teeth are! Indeed, in the right hands, lanturats can make wonderful pals, but if cared for wrongly you’ll have a depressed and mean critter on your hands.

First of all, lanturats are very social. You absolutely cannot have just one! A single lanturat will quickly wither away, pining for the companionship of its own kind. At least two kept together are a must, and if you can manage a large home for them all, the more the better! They will establish their own hierarchy. Plus, it means more cuddles for you; lanturats kept in a group don’t lose any affection for their owners, and will still crave your attention.

Dr. Erlenmeyer has speculated that lanturats came about when an unknown species of rodent nibbled on a Phantom Pandoria Box after indulging in too much pommekin pie. This would explain their odd mixture of Lanturn and Phantom qualities. Lanturats seem to float, but really they’re only gliding, and each one has an otherworldly aura around it. The rodents don’t seem particularly magical, although candy seems to disappear rather quickly with them around.

That brings us to diet. Lanturats subsist entirely on sweets and other snack foods, such as popcorn. They’re also hoarders, so try not to give your lanturats too much food or you’ll find the leftovers stashed underneath your couch! Make sure you supervise your lanturats while they play; any cupboard at their level is likely to be chewed through and thoroughly raided for its delicious contents.

Lanturats are extremely intelligent little pals. They can easily be taught to solve puzzles and mazes and many learn to do tricks with hardly any formal training. Praise and pets will motivate your lanturat to aim to please you, and of course you’ll want to throw in the occasional treat!

Harubians and anyai will instinctually go after lanturats, so keep these species separate! If your anya is particularly devout you can always just remind him or her that Rae is watching. Unfortunately harubians don’t have a deity to answer to, so I suggest a spray bottle.

Jasper might still view these rodents as pests, but many have come to love lanturats! Give them plenty of sweets, lots of room to play and toys to chew on, and you’ll have loyal and cuddly companions unlike any other.
