Character Spotlight: Maury
Written By gemajgall

Where would the Post Office be without Maury, it's best (and only) employee? Who would sell stationary, sort mail, and deliver packages? Who would ensure that letters reached all four corners of Mistica in a timely fashion? What would Teshia do without someone to help her customers with their larger purchases?

Maury's reputation is known far and wide across Mistica, and most Misticans appreciate the occasional lawn chair randomly dropped at their doorsteps—after all, who doesn't appreciate random lawn chairs? But what many don't realize is that Maury currently holds the track record for the longest time of reliable deliveries: three whole days!

The stationary Maury offers is also very popular. Admittedly, Maury doesn't design those himself—he actually has local artists contribute, who use inspiration from themes and patterns across Mistica. On occasion, Misticans have been known to find new stationary fluttering by them shortly after they saw Maury flying by overhead.

In addition, Maury guarantees that seven out of ten packages will arrive timely with only minimal damage—no other deliverers make that kind of guarantee. It is because of his reliability (and having no one else to choose from) that even King Blithe, Prince Arman and Princess Aisling have called upon his services when Mistica faced a crisis, such as when imps threatened Mistic Kingdom and when Sango Reef was controlled by Monty.

Maury takes pride in his work, which is shown by his dedication and dependability, seen by all Mistica as stray stationary flutters from his mail bag en route. When asked what makes him such an excellent deliverer, Maury chuckled bashfully and replied that his wing strength is his greatest asset—as a result, he can fly long hours just to have his break for his favorite foods at Keilly's Kafe. He also admitted that he conquered his fear of heights just to ensure that the Post Office continues to run smoothly.

“It's hard and it can be dangerous,” says Maury. “There's no telling when a blizzard might whip up across the Diamond Glacier Domain. And the water spouts off the coast of the Meadow of the Shores can be really vicious. But I do it because Mistica needs me.

“I know my sense of direction isn't the best. One time, I even got Ravi-Sorin confused with Rordon Village—how embarrassing! But you can rest assured that your precious packages and personal letters will eventually arrive at their intended destination. Anything handed to me is in good hands,” Maury smiled brightly, looking down at his two claws.
