Character Spotlight: Sunny
Written By gemajgall

Legendaries across Mistica love Sunny's fresh, delicious vegetables and fruit. People and pets from as far away as Rordon Village and Klaeris City have been known to travel just to purchase his produce. Many farmers have attempted to emulate his methods, and only Joel has had success. This has led to many asking what his secret is.

According to Sunny himself, there is no big secret—just attentiveness to nature and caring, wholesome gardening practices. In an interview, Sunny stated that the best way to grow nutritious, juicy vegetables is to follow common sense and tradition.

As a small child, Sunny grew up near Darkwood Hollow. The Cheran always had a great relationship with the sprite community, and Sunny and his family were no exception. Their sprite neighbors taught them how to keep insects away from crops by using Misticpals like the Anterkis instead of pesticides. Lining the garden with marigolds would keep all types of bunnies out, and daydream pets or pals guarding the fields deterred imps from vandalizing young crops.

When Sunny was a teenager, he experienced the magic of Pandoria, which transformed him into an overgrown Cheran. This delighted Sunny as he quickly discovered how closer to nature he was. First, he could sense subtle changes in the weather. He knew when windstorms would sweep across the land and when sizzling heat threatened to parch the ground. Armed with this knowledge, Sunny always immediately acted to protect his harvests from the elements.

His produce grew. Through this cultivation, Sunny reaped profits and bought more land. And with more land to tend, Sunny gained more experience. He began to notice how each season came and went, becoming skilled at predicted droughts and floods—years of hard growing and years of plenty. Thus, Sunny adapted his crops to the seasons, planning on drought-resistant vegetables or water-loving plants when needed.

With this type of care, his market continued to grow, although it was not without its downtime. On at least two occasions, imps snuck into his cellars the day after he finished harvest and carried off as much as they could. Sunny felt the frustration and loss of these times, of course, but as his name suggests, he faced them with sunny optimism, determined to learn to become better at his job.

When asked why he spends so much time and energy growing organic foods instead of investing in a grocer or restaurant, Sunny said, “When legendaries and Misticpets eat healthy, they feel better about themselves. And Mistica looks better too—it's greener, brighter. That's why I love what I do. So why would I want to do anything else—even if more MisticCash was involved?”
