This Month in Mistica: October '12
Written By Caustic

This Month in Mistica is a quick guide to everything that’s happened on site in the past month. Whether you’re new and want a better idea of what goes on here, an older user who’s returning, or simply too lazy to read the news, this article has all -- okay, most -- of the information you need!

October began with Queen Boreal’s usual hissy fit over the month’s new Kohal appearing and Vending items being released. There were spiders and ghosts and phantoms, meaning Lanturnacht was coming fast! There must have been some extra magic, because Zulime came out with the long awaited Ricket and Kohal poppets!

Over the next three days, Jahzara appeared to regale us with the tale of how Lanturnacht began. During her story, the Phantom Kirui was released, along with a number of Lanturnacht items and a limited release of Obsideons.

A storm kicked up on the 5th, destroying the tombs of Jasper’s beloved pals. Though he ran out into the gale to try and save them, it was eventually left up to us Misticans again to help gather up the pieces!

On the 8th, Jasper opened his famous circus! Mistical Wax Candles also made their way back into the Credit Shop.

The next day we all said goodbye to Captain Jack Skillow as the Black Pyre disappeared for another year. Below the sea, an Oceanic Gurahdi named Barra was contemplating what to do with all the extra Tasty Fish that Monty wasn’t snapping up anymore; they were plaguing the reef! He came up with the idea to let Misticans fish there every three hours. A new species, the Caribyss, was released, along with a page of facts Dr. Erlenmeyer discovered. But no one quite knew yet how to catch one…

That same night, Jasper (with some sneezing and sniffling) introduced the circus’s newest attraction: the Scary-Go-Round, run by the lovely Ivy!

On the 11th, we had a bit of a rollback, but were quickly back online. The Rollback Star was discovered soon after, so maybe it made everything go haywire?

Unfortunately, things were going downhill at Jasper’s Circus. Jasper himself came down with an extreme fever and was forced to let his brother Archie run the circus again, though with a few strong warnings.

The morning of the 12th Dr. Erlenmeyer appeared to show everyone how to catch a Caribyss. An Oceanic Zokuleon named Asiya guarded the edge of the reef, where the remaining Caribyss occasionally appeared (Monty had run most out of the reef). With a Tasty Fish, you could catch one, though there were some requirements and limitations involved. Adding to the excitement, the Baby Caribyss was discovered! If you didn’t have the space for a Caribyss, Pet Slot Coins were on a great sale.

That night, we saw Jasper sicker than before, practically delusional from the fever. Archie did his best, releasing new food and prizes, but his employees didn’t have much faith in his abilities. He’d run the circus into the ground before, after all.

On the 13th, the Terror Risylki and Caribyss were released, and the Battle Portal got a few updates. The most exciting news? PvP!

We said a big happy birthday to CaptainZebra on the 14th! A Leader of the Pack amulet was released in Tribal Trades in her honor. Meanwhile, Albrecht was taking full advantage of Jasper’s illness. He opened the Chamber of Evil with even more prizes (and dead ends and monsters, probably) and declared that with Archie in charge, the circus wouldn’t be around much longer anyway. And at Jasper’s Circus, it seemed Albrecht was being proven right. No one trusted Archie. After getting some advice from Belladonna, the Aetra got a few new ideas, however.

The next day, Archie was found deep in thought about Lanturnacht, and how Jasper had made the circus such a success. But right before showtime, Archie seemed to find his inner ghoul, because he appeared looking more like Jasper than himself! Trick-or-treating began, and a new game, the Ring Toss, was introduced.

A whole host of new gummy candies was released on the 16th.

After his big performance, the 17th found Archie much more liked by his employees. He’d shown true Lanturnacht spirit and put aside his usual nervous demeanor for the sake of a good show and keeping the circus alive. Albrecht wasn’t going to back down, though. He worked with some shopkeepers to release some spooky new pals, books and clothing, saying that Lanturnacht needed a “true leader”. Even the Pomme Tree seemed to sense the phantoms in the air and began releasing a new Spooky Pomme.

The Vending Machine was updated with some older items – and a Pet Slot Coin – on the 18th.

Jasper was still extremely ill on the 19th. Archie asked everyone to send the Jinx get well wishes, hoping it would help lift his brother’s spirits.

And on the 22nd, the fight for Lanturnacht began! Who would be the true king, Jasper or Albrecht? Both made their case and asked for candy as a show of support.

With Lanturnacht getting closer, a Pommekin Carving Contest was announced on the 23rd! If you didn’t have a real pumpkin to submit, you could always go to Rosebud’s shop and grab what you need for some on-site Pommekin carving.

The next day Albrecht and Archie both released new prizes to be won, hoping to gather support.

The Lanturn Risylki was discovered on the 25th!

Trick-or-Treating times were reduced on the 26th and Albrecht and Archie continued to plea with Misticans to donate and support them.

Three days later, in a last ditch attempt at attracting crowds, Archie released the last of the circus’s prizes. In the shops, shelves were stocked with new, creepy things to buy, and a few new candies were also released for Trick-or-Treaters to find.

Midnight came and Lanturnacht was finally here! The Jinx were released and Albrecht added one last treasure to his Chamber. Who will be king of this spooky season?
