Obsideon Tale
Written By SkyHawk

“Let me tell you a story that has been passed down many generations. It is a legend that we tell to our pups before they earn their masks.”

Long ago, the land of Mistica was a dangerous place. There were many evil creatures that had engulfed the land, but their reign of terror had begun to wane. One night, the skies of Mistica exploded in a shower of stars. One of those stars gave birth to the first Obsideon. His star light landed in the middle of the Dire Morana. Like the others born from the skies, his head was marked with the constellation that he had fallen from. This mark has forever been lost in the skies since his birth, but it was the constellation of an Obsideon.

Now, the Dire Morana had become such a desolate place that no living creature could survive there very long, except for one creature. A Fiend had been draining the life from the land for many years and was left with nothing to drain until the Obsideon arrived. This Fiend was thrilled to have another victim, but he could not drain its life so easily. The Obsideon was too strong willed for the fiend to overcome so he decided he would have to trick the Obsideon.

The fiend approached the Obsideon with an offer. If they both took part in some games that proved their skills, then the winner can force the other one to leave, since the Fiend knew that’s what the Obsideon wanted. Of course the Fiend would drain the Obsideon in the end if he won, since the Obsideon’s willpower would have been weakened, making him the perfect prey.

The Obsideon agreed to the games, but stated that if there should be a tie, they will have to do another game to determine the winner. The Fiend agreed to this, seeing as it sounded fair.

So the games begun; first, they battled. To the Fiend’s surprise, the Obsideon took every hit without retaining a scratch, but never fought back. He simply defended himself until the battle became a draw. The pair next tried to test each others' physical skills. Each ran, jumped, rolled, and even dug dirt to see who the best was, but the Obsideon and Fiend always came to a draw. The next set of games was riddles to test the mind, but each answered the same amount of questions correctly. The games continued on and on, until days had passed, and then weeks. Even years had begun to pass by as they continued to try and outdo each other.

Soon, the Fiend became so weak that he was nothing but bones. The Obsideon finally asked for the final game: to take a step forward. The Obsideon took his step, but when the Fiend, who had turned into bones, took his step, he crumbed into dust. The Fiend left behind just his skull as the Obsidian’s prize, along with the right to rule the Dire Morana.

The Obsideon took the skull and placed it on his face as his reward. He believed that patience and persistence will always be rewarded if you never wane from your task. Outward appearances are always deceiving and the mask is a way to fool your enemies to your true intentions, but to wear a mask it must always be earned and proven.

“We tell our pups this tale so they know why we wear a mask. Our greatest weapon is our patience and persistence, but we must hide those from our enemies. The mask is a tool of intimidation, but also a reminder to never judge by outward appearance. You may never know what anyone’s true intentions are, especially your enemies.”
