What's for Lunch? Part 1
Written By TheBrokenFox

Down the aisles of grocery stores and within the glass display windows of cafés you will find a bounty of delicious morsels that Mistica has to offer (and maybe some not so tasty treats, too). We feed our pets everything from fresh fruit to candy to biological waste, but how do we really know what is good for our pets? How do we really know what they prefer for lunch? Surely the sturdy stomachs of the Kratork are made of stronger stuff than those of the delicate Skillow! Well, to quell your fears and expand your knowledge of pet vittles, I will show you what your pets really want for lunch!

Aetrai have a fairly normal diet, being creatures of the river. Mostly carnivorous, they feed on small fysh (or fysch), crishy, loovster, water-born fysh eggs, fresh water clams and oxel, wurmmy, and occasionally pommes during the summer. An interesting fact about wild Aetrai is that they use the hairs on their head and neck to sense when prey is near.

The next pet of interest is the Ahbruis. Pups, like most mammalian Misticpets, are sustained on their mother’s milk until they are old enough and strong enough to chew meat. It is a good idea to let live prey, such as a Dwagorn, be hunted by the pups as it challenges and develops the skills and intelligence they will use as an adult. Older Ahbruis form packs and usually hunt larger prey, including Opaki and Fengrif, although they will resort to smaller prey like Anterkis if food is scarce. They can even digest select pommes and wild berries as a supplement during rough times, if the pack lives in temperate weather (rare but not unheard of). Cool fact? They can fish! Recent documentation found that a skilled Ahbruis could catch as many as five Catty within fifteen minutes!

Our last subject of the day is the diet of the Anya. There are usually two distinct denominations that the Anyai fall into: The worshipers of Rae, and the rebellious turned loose to the world. Those who follow Rae only eat sparsely, and the Priests and Priestesses are only allowed one meal during the highest arch of the sun and then once more just before sunset. Their meals usually consist of dried mouse, scarab delicacies, and bread, with the occasional Desert Scort during their migration. Anyai that do not follow the teachings of Rae often have more diverse tastes, enjoying mostly meat dishes. Unlike most felines, Anyai are unable to eat most grass and vegetables but they can still take in certain herbs to rid their stomachs of irritable contents. Interesting fact about Anyai? Due to a genetic anomaly, Anyai cannot taste sweets. Researchers believe it is connected to their meat-centered diets.

Well, that is all for this month’s installation of “What’s for Lunch?” Tune in next time to find out what your Belragoth, Braenon, and Cheran are trying to tell you about what they want to eat!
